Saw an E60 on Pico Blvd in WLA

It looks just as bad in person! At first I though it was a Pontiac but the scalloped headlights gave it away. Are they available for sale now?

I haven't seen one in person yet, but today I did notice that the big billboard at the corner of Sepulveda and Centinella, in Culver City, now has an ad for the new 5 where as it used to be an ad for the Z4.

I love that billboard (the Z4 one). Now I have to look an ugly 5 series? Yuk!!

Since the billboard faces north on Sepulveda and I am normally sitting on Centinella making the left to go south, I see the billboard at a very weird angle, so it looks very foreshortened and the car in the photo looks really odd. Maybe next week I'll detour so I'm going south on Sepulveda and I can see the billboard squarely.

BTW, this is the billboard that is visible from the southbound 405 as it crosses over Sepulveda.

Yes, I know the one you are speaking of. It's on top of Dina's Chicken. I live like 5 minutes from it.

I saw a couple at my local dealer yester. They weren't on pedestals or anything. Just sitting there way out on the lot along with the 03s they're trying to blow out.

Up close these cars look really good. The bustle is not as bad looking as in the photos, and the beautiful side contours don't show up at all in the photos. For some reason this car is the opposite of photogenic. I think it's because in a 2-dimensional medium the various character lines are overemphasized. When you get into the 3-dimensional realm with an up-close look the strong character lines compete with the beautiful curving surfaces for your attention.

The design looks more balanced when you see it up close in 3-d.

I agree. I saw one in Santa Barbara a few weeks ago, all taped up, but I still did a double-take as it was recognizably a BMW, albeit an unfamiliar one. It looks nice in person, and had a strong presence.

Also from the pictures on bmwusa.com, the overall look of the car doesn't look great in the pictures, but the close-ups of the car shows a lot of interesting character and detail. I wonder if it's one of those cars that you discover more of over time and when you wash it yourself. I just noticed the other day how the E46 M3's gas flap's lower right hand corner is flared out with the fender --- that was a cool little detail.

That's it!! A silver E60. I was at work looking through the window. It must have been on its way to Jamba since it's like three blocks from my office.

After seeing it in person last week, my impressions haven't changed much. In fact, they just got a little stronger.

I liked the front before, and now like it even more...I thought it looked sleek and modern. The back end always concerned me, and in person I thought it really looked a little too squared off and blocky.

Overall, it's OK. If my dad buys one, I'll be happy to ride in it.

Then again, the E60 tail really stands out among the crowd. There is no second thoughts that it might be another car. Or rather...it's unmistakenly BMW.

The salesperson was not helpful or interested in showing me the car. Handed me a brochure as we walked to the back lot where the e60s were and said "everything you need to know is in the brochure, looks the same in person". This is why i did not buy my e39 540 from them last month! Anyway, the cars he had were silver with black, sport packages. Could not really get a good look, as they were buried in the line. He made no offer to open the car, let me drive it, nothing. he did offer to sell me a 7 series! From what I did see, the car is not so bad, but the interior, especially the door panels, is not too attractive. Bottom line: I love my 03 540iA with the sport package, got it for 2500 under invoice and have no regrets.

Saw another black E60 on 405 yesterday (Sunday 10/06) . Again, it's unmistakenly BMW. Actually looks quite good.

Dealer in San Mateo, CA has 4 of them in stock, 2 Silver Gray, 1 Titan Silver, 1 Mystic Blue.

Blue had the sport package, sand interior, others had black interiors, all 4 were slushomatics.

I did not ask the "market adjustment" price!

BTW, despite the dame edna lights, it is growing on me. As far as the bangle score is concerned, I am 2-2, (Z4, 5 , 6, 7 )

I saw one yesterday on the freeway.... a silver E60 heading down the 55 Southbound (heading to Crevier I assume).... it didn't look that bad in person from the back while moving.... however.. it was kind of overcast and everything was grayish and I was driving on the freeway in traffic so I didn't get to look at it that closely....

I think it looks better in darker colors. The silver one I saw looked cheap.

I saw the E60 billboard and it looks really nice with the shadows and angle it was taken.

Is it just me, or does the E60 look A LOT like the new Grand Am?

NooooOoooo.... don't buy from Peter Pan..... aaaaaaagh. I made that mistake with my E36 1997 M3/4. I'll never do THAT again.
