heating issues inside car
developed a heating issue that when car sits and idles the air turn cold until I start driving or bringing up the rpms.At every stop light I come to and wait it gets cold but my temp guage stays right in the middle where it always has been. Just opened hood and felt my hoses and the upper hose is hot but the lower hose is cold. Radiator was new last summer, could it be the thermostat? Heats fine when driving. I have a 1998 528I.

Lower hose s/b cold. The outside temp is below freezing, right?
Might be the heater valve. Search this forum.

Search bimmerboard for 1998 528 cooling system overhaul. Sounds like a thermostat jammed open.

I was having a very similar problem a few weeks ago. My coolant was a little low but the main problem was the system needed to be purged of air. I found the "how to" by searching the forum here and all seems well. Good luck.
