X5 4.4i 2004 PROBLEMS

Have had the car for 2 yrs no problems reg. oil changes & main. Female & highway driven. Reached 130 km and have been fixing it monthly - rad. hoses, coolent leak, control arm, gas tank issue, now being quoted for VALLEY PAN - over a $1000 to fix. Not to mention that my hood has issues opening and my sun roof tilt is not closing. For those who own an X5 is there more to come? I love my bimmer, but am not sure if its worth it to keep it, I can't go back to anything else! Need advice :o(

Mein Auto: 2010 X5
I had a 2001 X5 for 4 years, had a lot of issues during the warranty period, as soon as the warranty expired, I realized how much it cost to own a BMW. My CAs used to always say welcome to owning a BMW. I was so disgusted that I sold the X5. I loved the car but hated the cost of owning. After almost 5 years, I just recently bought by 2nd X5. Lesson learned from the first one, always get the extended warranty or plan on selling before the warranty expires. Just my experience. Good luck!

Mein Auto: 98 740iL - Tweaked a bit
The cooling system is just that, a system. You should have replaced EVERYTHING in one single shot. Now you're seeing the downside of replacing bits and pieces of it since the new parts put more pressure on the older parts.

I just did my valley-pan and valve cover gaskets, along with oil separator since I was already there. Let me tell you if there is an indy shop (dealer will be around $2-$3k for all these) like one poster says who is willing to do it under $1k, let them do it; it's a PITA job.

Oh one more thing, my valley-pan gasket was actually OK but the rear coolant manifold gaskets are the ones leaking. The 3 screws on each side were so loose no wonder the coolant was leaking since I don't like the idea of going back to fix these I used Loctite blue on all 6 screws.

Also along the way I also found a leak in one of the vacuum line on top of manifold, After all of that jobs, my car runs smoother and pull harder. I have 2002 4.4i X5 around 70k miles.

GL.

I completely empathize with your situation, but we have over 160,000 miles and the key, IMO is keeping-up with the routine maintanence.

If I had the chance to do over again, which we probably will in the next year, is do like the previous poster stated, purchase the extended warranty.

Got stuck with a new transfer case and ABS module just after the original warranty expired, dang

Over-all, it's just a great, comfortale, safe car that's hard to say goodby to

"and the key, IMO is keeping-up with the routine maintanence."

So true, 2002 X5 153,000 miles. MANY ups and downs. At times i wanted to get rid, but i'm sticking with it, my valley pan was $1200 i think i remember that much definitely over $1000, I have the know how, but didn't have the time to fix that But i cant explain why i still LOVE this truck!!! It's going to hurt, but like posted above if you get systems done at once it helps the vehicle stay on the road for longer stretches, keep searching future problems online as well. Good Luck!

all bmw's at 60k miles should have the entire cooling system replaced and hoses, otherwise like others stated you just draw out the process. P.s you make payments or you make repairs, try not to do both.
