I Pod installation

I have a 2006 M3 convertible, six speed manual with the standard CD Bose stereo. I would like to get an I Pod adapter installed and thought that the dealer would be my best bet. This is the second Bimmer that I have bought from them and their service department has been great, so I have trust in them to do it right. Should I do this or can anyplace like Best Buy or Circuit City do the same for less? The wife says to just get satellite radio installed, but I have to keep paying for that and don't like the antenna they use. I prefer to listen to my own music, so all the stations I would miss are not important to me. Any thoughts? Scruffy

Mein Auto: 2012 ///M3 LMB/Black
On my M3 I had it installed at a dealer, the cost was arond $500- Canadian. The iPot here is connected directly to the radio and it works great. For my Z4 I went to the Apple Store the sold me a "RoadTrip" it lives in the cigarette lighter and the iPot Touch mounts on top of it. cost $104- Canadian. You find a FM station on your radio then tune the FM frequencey of the "RoadTrip" to the same frequencey as the radio FM station. Here is the RoadTrio web site; http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/roadtrip

Hope this helps

Thanks for the help. I've been leaning towards the dealer doing it, but it will cost more than I thought. I hate the thought of a 19 year old kid ripping into my M3 and then saying, " Sorry Man" if something goes wrong.

Mein Auto: which day is this?
I installed a Denison in my M3 vert. It's real simple. It connects where the CD changer would be in the trunk. Then run the cable into the passenger compartment. Check out eas, they are a forum sponsor.

+1 on contacting eas.

get dice, install it yourself, and call it a day.

DICE works well, is easy

I'm gonna have to say get a dice box. The claim is that the install is pretty simple, and, to my surprise, it's true. Something to consider I guess is that if you banjaxe the car yourself, you're SOL, while if the 19-year-old kid at the dealer pooches it, then the dealer is on the hook to fix. Something else to consider is that the BMW iPOd interface (at least the one in my 2004 e46) is absurd and shows that someone from BMW needs to visit the Lexus factory to learn about UI design.

Oh...the ashtray hide-it mount for the DICE looks really sweet and I assume is equally simple to add--the dash is surprisingly simple to disassemble and there's a fair amount of room back there to work in.

Just my two cents....
