Thinking about a new water pump?

If so (and if not, you should be) I notice that Autohausaz has an improved version of the pos OEM one, with a metal impeller, made by Graf. And not only that, it's cheaper: $56 vs $82 for the OEM replacement (which I'm quite sure is what was put in my car).

Just a heads up for those with cooling system issues (this means YOU)

E39 Water pumps.

There's also an EMP one for $170 if money's burning a hole in your pocket

This is rare but in the V8, there is one incidence where the OUTER section of the impeller falls off, making alot of noise:

For the I6 engine, I have had the "Hepu" Water Pump now for 4 years, rock solid.

Do a cooling overhaul.

Thanx for the heads up! I actually just developed a leaky pump in my 99 528it. What else should I replace while I'm in that area?

I've used nothing but Graf water pumps for over 10 years in all of my BMW's and never had one fail yet.

I believe Stewart makes a water pump that has a steel impeller. FWIW.

Do a COOLING OVERHAUL!
http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/199986

NOTE: Do NOT use MTC Fan Blade (mine broke after 15K, use BMW Dealer Fan Blade it is better).

Use realoem to find PN for your car: 1999 is slightly diff from 1998 model.

RE: Brand Name: BMW is fine, I am happy with HEPU brand (3.5 years and rock solid), Graf is fine too.
Geba is a bit unpredictable.

That's the one I just put on recently when I did my cooling overhaul. I think we can all agree if you can get parts that will perform better than stock in your cooling system it is a good thing.

Part# 888010330 - $170.95 (AutohausAZ.com)

EMP Stewart
Water Pump; High Performance
This pump offers 20 percent flow increase, carbon graphite seal, larger bearing, and stainless steel impeller for improved cooling efficiency.

Pelican Parts has Graf water pumps for $60, with metal propellers.

Don't know about Graf, but stay away from Bosch. New pump w/o-ring leaked right out of the box. Had to re-install original. Original is tight and running well. Will replace with Hepu at 200k.
