I ordered the FCP Groton kit for Elvira. It was just too crazy cheap to pass it up.

That sale ends in two days. I'm sure they'll still have them, and for cheaper than their website, but that is the lowest I've EVER seen them priced, and FREE SHIPPING.

well, not quite today, but a few days ago i gave my e36 a service, belts/oils etc, then we when for a drive north to thailand, 1000 kilometer round trip, including a mountain pass, all at 30+ degrees c, + four passengers and the temp gauge never moved at all
thailand, as usual, was superb, food great, 5* hotel cheap and the people welcoming... ;-) and the car ran beautifully, my first longish distance in a BMW, and now i know what ive been missing, even though its only a 318, for Asian road conditions its more than adequate.

Today I bought some FUGLY 15" bottle caps with studless snow tires on them... Not excited about the new look, but I had my car out in a light dusting of snow today, and that junk was SCARY. They were cheap, and the tires only have a few months of driving from last season on them, and that's really all I care about. Winter is just getting started here, and I have many months of navigating mountain passes ahead of me. Honestly, I'd rather have steelies, but it was either this, or inevitably crashing...
![]() I have yet to pick them up, so this is the seller's photo. Apparently they're all in good shape and just need to be cleaned.

Yeah, it could be much worse. They'll be fine for the winter once they're cleaned up. I've never owned dedicated winter tires before, either, so that should be interesting. I spent my first ten years of driving through crazy snow in Michigan on all-season tires in FWD cars. Never had a problem. But then I moved out west, bought a RWD car, and the mountain passes out here are no joke. Plus, I've lost track of how many times I've read that the single most important factor in avoiding accidents in the snow is having snow tires, and not the presence of 4WD/AWD.

I got a set of Dunlop M2 snow tires with that set of Borbet wheels for $75. They'll never see snow again, but they work great on dirt/mud.
The funny thing was when I bought them, they were from a guy that had just moved to Huntsville, Alabama from Chicago, and he figured he's never need snow tires down here. The day I picked them up they'd just had 6" of snow in Huntsville. I was afraid he was going to back out!

Today, I got the glove box installed, checked on the cabin filter (went on the to-do list; its nasty). I also painted the grilles until I can get some real ones. It looks much better for what they are.

coolant level sensor replaced
To-day I got rid of that annoying low coolant level warning on the onboard computer. For $25 and about an hour of my time I replaced the sensor.
I was assisted by this great step by step video when you see it done you know what you have to force ( after all with so much plastic one has to be careful what one forces!!!) and there are a few little tips included. Yeah another warning light gone!!!! But now the car is being stored for winter and a number of over winter jobs to be done!!!!

Today on SOMEONE ELSE'S bimmer I spent most of the day fighting a replacement door latch into a DS coupe door and getting everything to work (alarm, central locking, window drop, inside and outside handles working as they should). I had some very good help. When I wasn't doing that, I was picking up the six Beyern wheels I bought.

You forgot the fun foray into working on the VW and us spending most of the day futilely trying to make the pin work backwards. However, the wheels he got look seriously awesome! And we got the latch to work.

First time driving Ashlyn since when? Amber was stoked when she hit the highway. I couldn't even begin to keep up.
Oh, yes, I forgot about the headlight bulb fiasco on the Jetta (dropped the new bulb AND socket down into the engine bay while changing it). Also forgot to mention the great food at Abita Springs Brew Pub. And the locking wire from the outside door lock to the latch....we struggled with that for an hour plus before we realized we had the dang thing upside down. It had fallen out of the lock and latch when I took the latch out..... (facepalm)
