That's not from Katja. It's off my friend Eddie's yet-unnamed '84 633CSi, the current "project car". It's pretty cool having two Sharks in the yard (and an E36 or two, and an E30....).

Hey, got my spark plugs fixed and changed out the corner lights all in a day's work, and for once, without too much trouble - used the basic NGK ones that forum members seem to recommend. It had Bosch platinums in it, and they were not in too bad a shape, but I think she feels somewhat better now. Yippee, I am happy since am new to this DIY stuff!

Oh, and also got an OBD scan done - it threw one error code - P0420 - catalyst not working optimally - bank 1 (or something to that effect). What does it mean? O2 sensor needs replacment, which one? The car works like a charm as of now, so is this urgent?

Pulled my transmission yesterday to replace the clutch and leaking tranny input shaft seal.

In the process of mounting the tranny back to the engine, the starter decided to break. So now I need to remove the intake manifold to replace the starter. Ugh.

Can't you replace the starter more easily from below while you have the trans out?

Trans is already bolted loosely to the engine at this point. The starter somehow got binded between the tranny and the engine, causing it to break (one of the mounting ears sheared off). Gonna remove the IM to undo the electrical connections on the back of the starter, back the tranny off the engine a bit and pull the starter out and put the new one in. Then will firmly bolt the tranny up to the engine.

I would rather remove the intake manifold then drop the transmission again.

Gotcha. Take a good look for any hard, dry, or cracked vacuum hoses while you have the intake manifold off. Now is the perfect time to replace that stuff.

Yeah, I have the M50 mani already on. I just did a mini overhaul under there a couple months ago, so the hoses should be in good shape. Also will be replacing my dipstick tube o-ring which decided to fail and is leaking oil everywhere.

Franklyn, this is your truck! I had the Rabbit diesel and that was a great little DD. If it had been the PU I'd probably still have it.....

Pelican changed the delivery date estimate from today (Wednesday) to Thursday on the suspension pieces for the '84 E24. That means I probably won't have time to install the parts and finish up the work in time to drive it to the BMW-CCA local chapter meeting Thursday night.
