think it's a bad valve, so if it is, i willl most likely go get some parts and repair it.
if it turns out to be more, then i may simply pull the whole thing apart and send the block out to be machined and fitted with larger pistons. iirc 86mm is about as far as these blocks will go. or just over that, i think. will hafta double check. regardless, gotta dig a little more to figure out what is going on. worst case scenario i have an m52 to drop in there. ![]() df

Stripped the faces and lips on the style 19s to refinish them. I think I might actually sell them once done.

Those are a great idea, but I don't think there's room between the header pipe and nut to use those. They're like an ultra-thick-wall socket, and there's precious little room there already.
I still want a set of those!

M30 common problem fixed
This is why us oldsters always tell new BMW owners of models that have M30 engines to check the cam and valvetrain oiler tube and bolts. It's very common to pop off the valve cover and find one or both of the hollow bolts loose or completely out of location, just like this:
![]() Scary, huh? With that bolt out of place, the rear of the valve train gets no oil. Looks like this one hasn't been out long, since the cam lobes are no more worn than normal for a 74k mile M30. The front bolt wasn't loose, but it wasn't tight enough, either. The cure? Loctite on the threads, then torque to specs.

I would think those lobes would be shot with even just a few miles sans oil.... I guess there isn't much pressure on them
