Z3: Roadster speakers behind the seats...

I am trying to figure out what to do with the speakers behind the seats in the roadster.

Currently they have a/d/s 4" speakers in there for fill.

The issue I am having is that I can't fit the covers back on the speakers. Not enough clearance.

Anyone tried this before and had any success? Just looking for some roadster ideas...

why not buy a cheap subwoofer grill of whatever diameter gives you enough material to make a new cover for those rear spots? that metal mesh is really formable, is black, and should look pretty decent there.

Thought about that, but I really don't want it to feel tacked on.

I think the speaker grills have a date with my dremel...

Go to Fry's and buy a computer fan guard. That way you can still see the pretty blue's still. It looks like the large fan guard just might be the right size, take your ruler with...

Do your tweeters in your after market coaxial speakers stick out too far?

I don't have tweeters in the back. Didn't feel like I needed them.

Issue is that the grill wont clear the speaker. I was wondering if I could mount the speaker behind the panel instead of on top of it, but thats not going to work.

If he's using the factory amps, I believe that the output to the rear speakers is a bandpass output, making tweeters unnecessary. I think it's crossed over so that all that goes to those speakers is midrange fill.

I am not running tweeters in the rear. I am just running 125 watts each to the 4 inch speakers.

However, I am contemplating running the rear speakers off the head unit, if thats possible, and then running 250 watts to a sub of some sort.
