how do you take out the rear number plate globes??

hey guys i've done a search and i want to replace my rear numberplate globes with led globes (purcahsed already) but how do I take them out? I had a look and I was affraid I was going to break something if i levered it too hard.. is there a special way to get the out?

did you read the manual's guide for it?

oh good point funny enough I never actually thought of looking at any of the manuals in the car.. i'll go have a look now

Yep...owners manual or a search on the e39 forum...this is a question that has been asked & answered multiple times.

Removing the license plate light fixture (which is, I assume, the information you need) is simple once you know how.

thanks heaps for the help guys! I changed my number plate globes to LED's
but in terms of getting the globe out..it really was a quite confusing at first lol..i thought that you just pry at that area when infact its just push..quitea weird design..

If the new LED lights don't have a resister to "fool" the car's system, you may get a light out warning from them.

thanks for the heads up on that. When I bought my suspension last week the guy gave me them for free and told me that they have resistors built in so I shouldnt have a problem with codes or anything

Tell me again why you want the LED lights? Is it to match something or to get forever-lasting bulbs?

matches my front lights and i personally think it looks nicer..

In this case the manual isn't somewhere I'd have looked either, I'd have gone to the Bentley. The Owner's manual doesn't even tell you where the fuse box is...

Are you sure about that? Next time your near your "paper back manual"...turn to the index in the back and look in the "F" section for FUSES and see if there's anything listed. For example, in the 1999/2000 PDF version of the e39 manual...the glovebox fuses are mentioned on PAGE 178...and it continues on to PAGE 179 where it also mentions the trunk/cargo area fuses.
