looks cool, like a potentially great alternative to a Honda CRV / Toyota Rav4....especially like how the rear seats slide to create more legroom


I doubt we'll see this on US shores anytime soon, probably at least a few years out huh?

I can't imagine a heavier, larger vehicle saddled with that engine....it would be awfully slow, especially with AWD/Xdrive...

I think it is going to be in that same price range as the CRV / Rav4....with maybe a $1-2k premium over the similarly equipped models.

Also, evern though they are saying the Cooper S version is only going to be 184 HP I would bet that they are going to find a way for it to do 0-60 in the mid 6's. Which I think is fast enough for a small SUV

My wife currently has a Rav4 V6 AWD and she will probably be ready for a new car in the next 18 mths or so.....assuming the Mini does perform about as well (the RAV has 270 hp and 0-60 in about 6.2) then it may be a leading canidate to replace the Toyota

7.6 seconds is fast enough.

I don't see why an SUV needs to do 0-60 in under 8 or 9 seconds.

I agree that 7.6 is fast enough, but that does leave me a bit surprised considering the competition. ANd that the Mini should be somewhat sporting. But maybe I am off base.

BMW can't canibalize sales of the X1 before it's even launched!

I agree that it is also fast enough...but Mini has never been known for their 0-60 times...most V6 Toyotas are faster off the line than the MiniS

In fact, in most small car comparos the Mini usually ranks last in 0-60

Again, this isn't a problem for me but i'm just saying that's not what they are going for.

I'm kinda surprised that it would achieve 60 mph in 7.2s considering the "SUV" has a lot more added mass, has AWD, and probably has more drag (though that's opinion based on looks not based on anything quantified) than the S Coupe. They have the same engine and output, I would just think the Crossman/Countryman/Whatever-they're-gonna-call-it would be significantly slower - or at least slower than the base Coupe.

Though I'm no fan of SUVs, especially for makes like MINI or Porsche, I'm looking forward to actually seeing one of these beasts in person. I have a feeling it's going to seem like more of a wagon than an SUV based on its size.

Just drove the M Class X5 now that I will concede is fast enough for an SUV.
