headlight icon!

whats up guys

first of all i would like to wish all of you guys a late-happy new year since i havent been on for a while..

well yesterday my headlight icon lit up on my dashboard (on my 04' X3) and i saw that one of my headlights (which are stock bmw) blew so today i went to speedworld in queens, new york (most reliable place around the area to get custom light/sound/alarm systems around my area) and got them to put a HID light kit with the relay and all that in my car. they installed that and the relay and i was out of there within a hour and a half. lights look greatl. work perfectly but the headlight icon is still showing up i dont want to try messing around with the wiring of the lights cus i know all that is sensitive and such. can any of you guys guide me in what i should do? i called the guys at the shop but they were clueless -_-

if the place is all that, you gotta bring it back and have them make it right.

It just sounds like it needs a new relay, or a warning lamp bypass of some sort. It's a pretty common fix with those on the E46 board that update their cars to LED tails. Just take it back to the place that did the install and tell them to google it (or do yourself). I cannot be of much more assistance than that, but am fairly certain that is the fix. Good luck....

Same problem on the E39 board with some upgrades. You may have to live with it. They should have told you about this. You might contact the guys at turner motorsports who handle hella light kits which are the oem brand for bmw. Their's are a whole lot cheaper however. They may be able to point you in the right direction.

What did this cost and can you post a picture of the conversion?

srry for the late reply i been very busy lately.

well the light is still going off but when i get the time i will remove the HID light kit. put back the regular bulb. see if the icon comes off and install the HID kit again.

@bluemonk.. ill take pics of the whole thing tomorrow and have em up tomorrow night that way i can take pics of it while its dark..

and the cost for the kit and the install the guy charged me almost 200. i was gonna make it a DIY project but i really didnt have the time.

It looks to me like you just put HID's into your halogen reflectors which is not only illegal but dangerous.

HID HEADLAMPS

If you take out your halogen bulb and slap in an HID bulb, I guarantee you that you will have an illegal beam pattern. The HID bulb is brighter, and the arc source is a smaller light source than the halogen’s filament wire. The reflector must be designed for the light bulb. There is no such thing as one reflector that will give a legal beam pattern for two different bulbs. Even if the beam pattern “looks” like it has the correct shape, there will be too much light thrown into the eyes of oncoming drivers. A well-engineered HID system is unmistakable – it doesn’t blind oncoming drivers.

If you want HID and you want to stay legal then you have two choices: (1) Buy a complete headlamp assembly that was designed around an HID bulb (the reflector was designed for HID). (2) Cut a big hole in the OEM reflector and retrofit an HID projector headlight into the hole. The beam pattern from a low-beam projector system is a legal low-beam beam pattern.
