New rev limiter

It seems that my car has made itself a new rev limiter at about 5200rpms. Anyone know why these cars would just decide to do this? The revs will not go over 5200 but it revs up fine. the idle is alright but sometimes the car will just die if i let it sit for awhile. I just replaced the o2 sensor but that didn't seem to help. Only a few sensors left that i have yet to replace. Gimme some suggestions!

Mine did that (booyyaaaahhh past tence ) when it was cold from time to time, talking once a fortnight. no idea of the cause but i have been told on a different forum that either the AFM or TPS is be the issue as thats what fixed it on his car

It could be the road speed sensor. Did you check the fault codes?

There's a diagnostic port under the hood. An indy shop can pull the codes for you. Or Google "stomp test".

I didn't know that. Go to a local shop and ask them to read the diagnostics.

well the check engine light doesnt stay on. it only goes on when the car hiccups then it goes off.

anyone know what the sensor is thats right under the TPS? it plugs into this circular thing with a little vacuum line that goes underneath the throttle body

round connector under the throttle body, c191 iirc. This has been disscused on here recently. I reccomend unscrewing it and checking for moisture and corrosion, if water is present then make a small slit in the bottom to let it drain.

It is a main connector, I dont really remember exactly what it goes to but it does effect the way your car runs. Just unscrew it and see what it looks like. I had water and corrosion in mine, I used a very small screw driver to scrape the inside of the pin connectors. Dont know if this will help your problem but it is easy to try.

i dont know if we're talking about the same connector here. this connector has a vacuum line going to the charcoal canister on one end and the other end has a vacuum line going to the throttle body/.

0 280 142 150 Canister Purge Valve

This is what I came up with. I guess you could try to clean it out since it is a valve.
I dont know for sure but you could probably bypass it but I bet you would smell gas fumes in the car.

well i was fiddling with that and the tps while my car was running. i got it to rev up to the real limiter but now its back to 5k and wont go any higher. idk if i have a bad vacuum leak or if that purge valve is blocked or something

Here is some info on motronic and 2 or 3 down it explains that valve. http://www.hiperformancestore.com/Motronic.htm

I think that it may be the tps though, do some resistance tests on it. There is tons of info and tests in that link I gave above.
