No such thing as a M530i, but an ///M badge was a dealer option. was one of the first years that the dealer offered the ///M badge regardless of if it had any ///M options. you can still do that today, though usually it is in place of the model number.

Furthermore, most "M540i" arent really M540i either. the real ones have manual transmissions, which from memory only 1200 or so units worldwide, and not all of those are M540i as well (I am pretty confident im right about this last point, but i havent had the time to get as clued up on the E34 as I am the E30 so dont hold me to it)

Hey thanks for the clarity. I am learning as I go. When I bought my 94 530 it had a M badge on it. I didnt know the difference either way. I like the car, not the fastest I've driven but it will do for a daily driver. I needed a 4 door car, since I got a 2 year old and I wanted to keep miles off of my newer cars and my turbo car. A V8 5 speed was appealing to me so I bought it. I got it for $800 it has 300k on the miles, probably needs bushings and struts in the front, it was doing the typical 55-60 mph shimmy and everytime I hit a bump it felt like my car is falling apart. I just purchased a wrecked 95 540 so eventually I am gonna swap the engine, but for now I am going to do the interior etc, and try to figure out how to get the smileys to work if i can then I will set them and get me some Ebay Angel Eyes.

Well you are the one that says in one thread, you already purchased a 540i, and in another thread from 2 days ago you said you were 'in the process' of a 1JZ swap...I am just curious which it is and wanna see the end results. I am interested...

M540 were Canadian spec 540i/6's with M5 suspension and aero...there were 32 of them in total...you are thinking of the 540Sport.

does it have any Alpina bits? or whats the car your alias is names after? i quite like the rarer specialty versions of the E34 such as the alpina B10 and the ACS S5. never really been interested in owning an M5 or 540iS etc

There are no Alpina bits on the 540 which I have just sold, but I have this B10 V8 with lots of Alpina bits:

Thought i would say hi and thank you to all that have posted in the past. It made my choice of BMW so much easier.
I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.
This is my 525I that i picked up last week. Sight unseen and than drove it 2000km home over the next 2 days. I could not be happier. To top it all off, it has a third peddle.
It is true what i have been told in the past, "You don't know driving until you've driven a BMW"

Hello from the Rocket City in Northern Alabama! After two e28's I finally made the jump and picked up this '93 525i for a song back in early December. Looking forward to getting it sorted out and having this forum is going to be a big help.
