My first BMW in about 20 years. 184,000, and needs lots of work, but it was cheap.

+ $460 on Craigslist...

Oh yeah, IT'S A TOURING!!!

Well thank you, thank you very much. My last car was a free '93 Honda Accord. It had just over 100,000 miles when it was given to me, and I got another 120,000 after that. Really can't complain about that many "free" miles, but there is a hidden cost to a free car. It was the WORST car on the road, about 99% of the time. I relished seeing a bigger POS than mine, and I got sick of spending time and money (mostly time) on it. I figured if I was gonna be working on a car every weekend, it might as well be one I like. My last BMW was a '78 525 I believe. I didn't have the know-how or resources to get it running right, so I gave up on it. It did make the impression on me that BMW makes great cars. This one is a blast to drive, and I can't wait to see what it's like when I get the problems corrected.
Stuff to address:
e34 front end shimmy (any help pointing me in the direction of parts advise, I need to decide between OEM, and upgraded Merle (? brand) upper control arms
auto-trans filter, fluid, gasket (preventative)
valve cover gasket
leak in rear end on suspension self-leveling or braking system
PS pump
interior work, mostly headliner sagging, and deaden vibrations for heavy bass

RUST-It's a MN car, and unfortunately in my price range, I had to make some sacrifices. The photos are of the 'good' side, to show off to my friends the great deal I got . The drivers side door is bad, and the rockers are pretty shot. If anyone knows about rocker repair panels, again, please point me in the right direction. There are several spots that have poor repairs I can make better. I am pretty good with auto painting, and have a fairly good selection of tools for the job, but I need good metal to work with. I'm trying to decide if I can save the body, or just get another 2 years out of it. For now, I want to keep it safe, and sound mechanically, and replace what I can, when I can. I thought I had a junkyard door, same color, but it turned out HIS definition of 'silver' is my definition of Charcoal.

I am hoping to get into an e39 540i if my job/budget allows, but for now, I had to grab something to replace my Honda.

Sounds interesting. However, I myself have started owning beemers since March 2011 and am myself on the learning spree with all the passion and enthu. You are in good hands here and am sure the pros will go out of their way to guide you just as I have been seeking help in desperate situations with their everwilling moral support.
You have a wonderful vehicle and am sure it will be very reliable and dependable once sorted out.
Wish you all the BEST and many more happy miles and times.

2500 isn't bad for a 540/6 if he doesn't take your offer ask him what his bottom dollar price is. Actually that car does need a little work on the outside but that interior is dope. Good luck man

Too late. I just bought it for $2000.

Seriously, just going by photos, it looks like a $2500 car. Assuming it needs no major work, and the body isn't rusty, I'd jump on it for $2500. Of course, I'd try to get it for $1500 first.

Spend a couple hundred on a professional inspection. Everyone's budget is different, but when I start getting near the $2000 mark, I get a pro's advise.
