Wierd problem with transmission/converter.
Hi new man on the board.
I just bought a 2004 bmw x3 3.0D with a steptronic transmission. I bought it cheap because it has a problem with transmission converter etc etc. The car has run 300.000km.
Now to the problem.
When the car starts(cold), it runs perfect for about 10min, no problem with any shifts, every thing works fine. After 10 min the cars goes in "limp"mode I guess, it stops moving, and no gears can make the cars move. If I turn off the car for about 60 seconds, every things work perfect again, for about 500meters, then limp mode again, and continues like that. (no warning lights comes up) The car just got a new fluid and oil pan in the transmission(17000km ago), and problems startet after that. Yesterday I changed the oil again, and then I noticed a problem. Took out the old oil, an refill it with new oil(orig bmw, like the pan). Startet up the car and drive it thrue the gears to fill up the cluthès, and getting the transmission up to aprox 50 degress, for doing "after refill". Put the car in park, still with engine running and took out the refill bolt. The oil was running out like a river? Why does it do that? I heard a little "rattle" noise from the torque converter, but mayby its because its not fully filled with oil.?
I have read a million threads here on this exelent forum, but cant find any who has experinced the same problem like me..
ps. sorry for my poor school english, hope to gets reply`s anyway..
