New Car

My half sister just gave me this car. Its a 1996 BMW James Bond edition Z3. It is number 6 of 100 and had just shy of 70k. What makes it unique is that it has a special VIN, chrome A pillar, doorhandles, plaque in front of shifter, and luggage rack. Has upgraded wheels, cd changer, automatic, and only offered in 4 banger . The car is absolutely mint though and is nicer than my 98 nissan altima with 270k.

Towards the end of the movie it was involved in a big action scene.

Actually it saw no real action in the movie - it was just driven down a dirt road and had a few close-ups during a scene where 007 and Felix Leiter talk.

Weren't those sold through Neiman Marcus' Christmas Catalog in 1995?

Yes they were. That color is called Atlanta Blue and that was the only way you could get it.

More Info:

Back in 1995 James McDowell, vice president of marketing at BMW North America, Inc. and mail-order firm Nieman Marcus worked together to launch the BMW Z3 roadster in the Nieman Marcus Christmas Catalog. It was a BMW Z3 special edition "007 JAMES BOND" along with 2 tickets for a Goldeneye dinner party in LA with Pierce Brosnan. Originally BMW and Neiman Marcus had set a 20-unit sales goal over the 3.5 month Christmas selling period. In two days, 100 Z3 orders were placed, so BMW agreed to increase the total production to 100 units. The BMW Z3 used in the movie Golden Eye was one of the first Bond cars made outside of Great Britain.

That movie was the first time the world has seen the Z3, I have the 1995 Newman Marcus Christmas catalog the Z3 a full page ad, price 35k. on the opposing full page a 900,000 diamond neckless.
The car did no stunts in the movie because it's the only one they had at the time.
This was the beginning of the Z3.
I would say you could have a very valuable Z in that condition.
First time I have seen one that someone actually owned.

Another small fact I learned at the Zentrium....

The car that was in the movie didn't have a finished interior, because it hadn't been manufactured yet. Most of the dash and interior trim pieces were missing.

Yeah I've been doing research trying to find out whats its worth if anything yet. I cant even find a previous owner or any kinda info that would indicate price. As far as the movie goes there was only 2 or 3 existing concept at the time so they couldnt do anything to them.

Right, lol yea shes good to me. I just hope driving this slow thing around for a while will pay off some day. Would be happier with 50 more hp but being an auto i'd rather not. I guess thats a good thing seeing how modding it may de-value the car.

Here's another idea: retire the car and get a Z4M

Neiman Marcus often has special cars in their Christmas catalog. When the Gen I Audi TT came out in 1999 the first ones were NM edition gray with red interiors, also limited to 50. Although ordered through NM, they were actually delivered by the dealer of your choice, my local dealer had three of them come in all at once, very pretty. Value wise though don't expect a whole lot more for what amounted to a cosmetic package.
