Warning to Phatbox owners

Hi,
I just wanted to let all ********box owners know that it appears
that the latest update to their PC software may contain the key logging program IOpus Starr. I have been trying to find out how it kept getting on my PC for several months. I finally tracked it down to ********box software update this morning.
I have contacted Phatbox and they assure me that it was not intentional
and that they will investigate it but they didn't seem as concerned as I would have expected either. The free tool, Spy Sweeper will detect and remove it if it is on your system.

While I don't work for PhatNoise, I am pretty up-to-date with what is going on with the PMM software. I believe that this is a false detection by Spy Sweeper - it finds the "problem" in the unzdll.dll file. The author of that software has this to say about it (scroll down a few messages).

By the way, it's not possible to have "the latest update" to PhatNoise Music Manager for several months - the latest version, 2.30, was released around the 7th of October (4 days ago).

Hi Terry,
First let me say that I have the one of the first BMW Phatboxes
sold and really love it, so I'm not bashing the product. The URL you gave had some good info which may apply to the dll in the
Phatbox software, I hope it is just a false positive from the spy
sweeper program. That's why my original mesage said that there
"may" be a problem.

As far as looking for the problem for several months, the previous problem I found on my system on August 9th. That
probably is about the time the previous update from Phatbox was done. So this would be what I was referring to in terms of
looking for the source for several months.

Hi,
There's a lot of really bad pieces of software out there. The ones you mentioned are some of the worst kind. They can dial out on your modem and charge up thousands of dollars on your phone bill which would be very difficult to prove you didn't place
the calls. We all need to sweep our systems on a regular basis.
