The paint is flaking off the driver's side roof trim (where the roof rack attaches) on my 2006 325i. I did a search in this forum but didn't find much info.

Also, the center console and door pull is peeling on the driver's side. I found a SIB for the door handle in a forum post, but I haven't found anything on the center console.

Is anyone aware of service bulletins for these issues.

Thanks.

I was aware of the interior peeling issues. I did not know that the exterior had similar problems.

Interestingly, I ran into a guy with an E46 last week and he was having the exact same problem with his exterior trim. He said that the peeling started to get worse and worse after each rain. However, we had an E46 that was parked outside for seven years. No peeling whatsoever.

I had the same problem with my roof trim. Dealer replaced it at N/C but my car was under warranty at the time. You're the third or fourth person on this forum that has had that problem with an '06. (aside from myself) Not exactly in the league of HPFP failures, but I got the impression it was failry common.

Good to hear. One of my parent's friend's daughter's 06' was doing the same. She has been asking me asking about it and I had no clue if it could be replaced or not. She also has the extended warranty. The only issue with that is BMW Momentum West. They hate dealing with warranty claims if you didn't buy from them originally from what I have experienced with my old X3. :tsk:

Sorry for the mini rant.

Roof trim

I have the same issue on my '07 e90. The piece is on order and It will be replaced under warranty. I am having additonal issues and fighting with BMWNA to replace the flaking A/Y shift knob and flaking paint on the console trim (The outside edge facing the next to the driver's seat cushion). The dealership told me it would be a cost (&500.00) to me. I am currently in the process of badgering BMWNA. I have owned 6 BMWs since the mid a070's without issues of this kind; it is distressing that BMWNA has not agreed to rplace without question.

I had the roof trim issue on my 2008 328i and it was replaced under warranty. On the driver side only. Can't figure out why just the one side. Dealer indicated it was a common problem. No issues with interior trim.

Center Console Peeling - Found the solution

Good day all. I like many others on this forum experienced the same peeling pattern on my center console. My car is way out of warranty. I called around to some vinaly repair shops they wanted about $200 to fix. I did some research and found duplicolour. I have beige interior (KAB4). The closest match I found was duplicolour HPB113.

Here's a tip for the application. For the fine touchups the spray is very difficult. I bought a cheap sponge brush and sprayed the duplicolour on the brush then applied to the center console. This will also provide a rough finish which will blend nicely.

For 10 bucks I was thrilled with the outcome. Highly recommended if your car is off warranty.

Can you post a pic of the duplicolour? And where can you purchase it? I'm assuming any hardware store right? Like Home Depot, lowes, etc..?

So I did a second coat on the center console. Here's the before and after pic. Obviously do to the lighting differential it looks like two different interiors but you get the idea. To the naked eye, even in bright day light it blends beautiful. As for the interior door handle I have experienced some slight peeling as well. I tried the touch up but it doesn't blend quite as well. I will probably tape off the door handle and apply an entire coat. I will include pics of that when I am done.
