'00 540i 6spd 140k, Runs like it's brand new, and i drive it like i "borrowed" it on a regular basis. Over the last few days with 12+ inches of snow, my car was more sideways then straight. 10 mph in 2nd, turn the wheel, floor it and pump the rpm's from 3.5k to 5k while pointing the wheels in the direction the road goes. So much fun, even without the LSD.

Man I love the way those rims look. If you don't mind me asking, were did you get them, how much were they, what size are they, and did you have to mod anything to fit them on. Thanks.

What happened with your torque converter? That seems like low mileage for a new converter. I have a Step w/ 62k and am hoping that torque converter will last a while. Plan on changing diff/tranny fluids in the spring, for first time.

For OP: See the sig for my repairs (some other wear items like brakes were not included).

What is your odometer at? 121,000

What year? 2002 525i Sport

Any major drive train repairs? Not yet.

Runs like the day I bought it. The only things I hate are the rear door vapor barriers.

Not thrilled that I have to add 2-3 quarts of oil between changes.

Probably spend $1,500-$2,500/yr to keep it happy.

2003 525i with sport/cold weather/steptronic, 102k. New brakes, alternator, battery, FSU, waterpump/thermostat, front roundel, plastic switch for fan speed on climate control. All replaced between 86k-102k. The car runs great, doens't burn any oil in between changes so far, trim and interior good except for typical hairline cracks in wood trim. The hood could use a repaint and front headlight covers hazy. Replaced a few pieces of wood trim. No major drivetrain failures to-date. Have also kept up with various fluid changes but have not done tranny flush yet.

How many miles on your E39?

Its a 535i 1997. Right now is clocked 220k and counting -will be counting for sometime to come. Major fixes since i got it used 14 months ago: misread the cooling system so water pump, radiator and top gasket had to be changed. Just in december i changed the gear oil, But given my peculiar locale i have changed stabilizers twice. But i trust that i will not be making any major repairs, except am careless. Just now am thinking of adding to the gear oil as i have noticed twice now the gear would not engage sometimes. All things considered still runs very well and does good fuel mileage. all systems work save for the phone.

Any major drive train repairs? Nope

Previous owner had : MAF, O2, control arms, ball joints, water pump, hoses & thermostat plus the typical leaky power steering hose replacement done.
All I've had to do, other than brakes & fluid changes which are regular maintenance, is the radiator and replace a leaking block heater.
I must have got a car built after a successful union contract negotiation. So far ...so good.

Can't believe it doesn't use a drop of oil still between oil changes.

I've had two japanese cars that started using oil at about 150K

Original engine and tranny (still has the lifetime ATF fluid in it)

How would I know if I need to replace the Vanos.... all I have really noticed over the course of 80k is a reduction in fuel economy from 27-28 at the worst to 15 city and 19 city and while when it warmed up and I baby it at 75 I can get around 28 on average... I used to never be below 25 even in the worst conditions.

Just wondering what the other symptoms are or if I should just do it!

99,870 miles as I pulled into the driveway this evening. Only had the car since October 2009. Have put about $3,000 into it for the 100K service (obviously done early), oil separator and some other basic repairs that it needed after I bought it.

Plan on keeping it another 2-3 years minimum. It's my secondary/weekend car...although I have been know to use it as my daily driver during the week which I did this week. My '09 328i sedan was so clean I wanted to keep it in the garage!
