67,000 miles, putting 13,000 miles on the car since purchase in January 09. So far; front pad and brakes, battery, vapor barriers, FSU, and tires. Up next; CCV, Oil Filter Gasket, spark plugs, fuel filter, and cooling system overhaul. Probably needs vanos. I figure about $1,000 in parts and a full day sometime this summer.

sorry for the late reply!! im careful with the car from the moment i turn the key and let the fuel pump do its job!! but one day cruising,"service engine soon" came up out of nowhere....my heart dropped, everything was just quiet the only sound was my heart beat at 110mph turned pale, hands sweaty kinda feeling....and the TC had given up on me, its weird that at 67k it would give me those kinda problems but yeah thats what it was, the indy did his job but did not replace the tranny fluid, i wonder if its a bad a idea to replace the fluid now that i did that, my car is like new with so many parts getting replaced avery 2 months i wish these cars were like nissans, my brother owns a 01 altima and at 160k it runs fine, nothing but oil changes.

98 528 with 160K.

I put over 14K in 4 months on it.

So far I've had to JB weld the front wear sensor back in place to stop the sensor light, wrangle a bolt and nut in the ebrake pads to prevent a squeak, replace the idler pulley, sand the wiper relay, replace plugs that looked factory, clean the ICV and replace the traction control throttle cable.

Aside from the idler pulley (which flew off but the belt continued to run on the frozen bearing just fine) none of the repairs were dire. I plan to swap the vanos seal once the weather gets better as well as replace the front struts.

Love that car!

With that mileage....might as well do the fan blade....seen examples of them grenading and doing a bunch of damage....about $1,200 worth...not counting the hood.

Went bad:
Ebox fan ~$160 for part

Royal Purple Synchromax diff fluid
Royal Purple 75w-140 tranny fluid

Good thread.

53K

2003 540i6

Bought with 44K. Since ownership April 2009: Cabin filters DIY, FSU (nervous, but VERY DIY, then angry what dealership wanted to charge for repair), oil change (dealership) and left rear door seal (didn't know it was a DIY). Planning to do clutch delete valve this spring.

Not sure what will go next. Don't know if cooling system was done prior to my ownership, any suggestions how to find out?? Maybe nothing will go wrong??

It's good for peace of mind to just swap the fluids on purchase....unless you have records.
Tranny (17mm socket), diff (14mm allen)....make sure you can crack open the fill hole before loosening the drain hole....for both diff & tranny, coolant every 2 years, brake fluid every 3....there will be a little leftover brake fluid in the system, unless you take it to the dealer & have them actuate the ABS to get it all out....or do some real heavy braking & then flush a little more.
Cheers,
E

I wouldn't go so far as to say it runs "fine", only that it runs.

There's a sticker with the date on the passenger side of the radiator. Look there and you'll at least know if the radiator has been recently replaced.

This bimmer has its cooling system done and tranny replaced.

Next: Suspension. This summer: VANOS and CCV.

I want to keep it until 200K miles.

Of course we all know that "Life is what happens when you have other plans".

Water Pump failure at 79K [WP + thermostat replaced], all other cooling system components are original.

Nothing else major (LR vapor barrier, driver's seat transmission [ext. warranty], RR tail light assy [corrosion]).
