Z4 2006 - Replacing Steering Wheel Silver Trim

Hi All,

I have a 2006 Z4 3.0si with an automatic transmission and paddle shifters. The previous owner was a bit rough with the car and scratched the silver trim of the steering wheel in a few spots.

Its not that noticeable to others, but being picky, I'd like to replace the trim with new trim.

My question is - how difficult is this to do? Is it simply a matter of unscrewing the existing trim pieces and installing the new ones? Or, is it a complex job, involving fiddling with the multi-function switches on the wheel - and of concern to me - the airbag mechanism in the steering wheel?

Thanks!

Huzz

There's an M wheel for sale herehttp://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=351417 and it is slightly more than buying the trim new and replacing it. From experience, the wheel feels fantastic.

I can get new trim from Tischer for $180. That's less than half the cost of the M wheel. Besides, I like the stock wheel!

From what I understand it is quite easy. Just unscrew the bolts from the back of the wheel and remove/replace.

Thank-you!

Hmmm. So, there's no hassle with the multi-function switches and the airbag mechanism?

Cheers!

I just installed the M wheel on my 3.0si two months ago and all the connections for the radio and phone controls are in the center below the airbag. When you change the wheel, you have to disconnect all of these and reconnect to the new wheel. Therefore, when I changed this out, I removed the negative battery cable to eliminate any issues. For your trim change out, there should be no issues.
