Yup. I'll be taking a route a little more south to avoid toll roads like I-90 but that's the gist of it.

Los, that is legit! Are you and Ed going to caravan?

If he's still coming I think it would be good. It would depend on our presumed departure times adding up, etc. I'd like to know what everyone elses deal from this coast is though. A sh*tton of people were saying they were going to go in Sama's thread a while back but I haven't heard much else since.

Well I'm taking my wife's old digital rebel DSLR (she won't let me take the new T1i) I also have a flip slide and a tripod, I'm no proffesional but i'll do my best....

I'll have lots of photo ops in Canada, just don't expect a clean car in any of the pictures. The AlCan is a filthy nasty dirty place.

I leave thursday night after work, and plan to spend about a week or so in San Fransisco before the fest with my grandpa and uncle.

I'm actually going to be headed to the fest from San Diego...I'll be in San Fransisco for the week before, but then the thursday before the fest I'm going to san diego to pick up some new recaro seats from aardvarc, I'll save a few hundred in shipping by just driving down....

then on friday morning i'll head up to bimmerfest hotel from san diego.

I'll be hitting the BMWCCA golden gate chapter auto-x on May 16th though.

Is there any way that someone can beat the E21 from Alaska? One year we had a guy from Norway,
but I don't think he came to America just for Bimmerfest...

I set out tomorrow afternoon. The baur is getting an allignment right now, aside from packing the car I'm ready to go.

Driving in from Salt Lake City Utah.

Not TOO far I suppose especially compared to some of the others coming from alaska or the far east. But still a decent trip out

I have no idea how far we'll be travelling, but myself and two others are driving from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, west to the Rockies, then diving south to take in some fantastic driving roads (definitely NOT as the crow flies, LOL), down the Thunderhill Raceway for a May 12th Track Day, then dipping down into Mexico, as far as Los Cabos. We will then turn around, and take in Bimmerfest. No idea how far that is going to take us, but it is going to be a BLAST!!!!

I think it will be over 3600 miles by the time we reach Bimmerfest.

Well I've made it to Prince George, BC. This morning I was in Watson Lake, Yukon Territory. It was a long day.

I left Anchorage at 7 pm on thursday and drove to the other side of Tok, AK the first day. The roads past Glennallen were horrible, at one point I hit a rollorcoaster foolowed directly by a pothole at 12:30 am and the car just quit running....(the baur was mad at me I think) I jumped out in the dark with my flash light jiggled the fuel pump relay (I have a few spares in the glove box too) and it fired up and I was going again. The roads were terrible all the way to Whitehorse, YT. After that it was clear sailing, mainly good roads and 70+ mph most of the time. I didn't see a cop for about 1600 miles. I stayed Friday night in my tent in an old quary off the highway near Watson Lake, it was nice, although it was also clear and it dropped down to way below freezing.

Today I had the top down and for a while the roof off too, then it started snowing so I had to put it all back on. It actually snowed on me twice when I climbed over 4300 feet once and then 3200 feet the second time.

Tonight I cheated I checked into a hotel in Prince George after a 820 mile drive in a 29 year old E-21 with no power steering or cruise control,I'm dead tired. Tomorrow I drive the 450 miles to Vancover and reenter the Lower 48.

So far I've driven 1826 miles, I'm slightly more than Half way to Bimmerfest. I'm going to be stopping at my grandpa's place in Daily city for the week or so before bimmer fest, then I'll go down to San Diego and get some new seats for the baur, My back will thank me for some non worn out seats with lumbar support for the trip home.

I spotted lots of black bears, moose, herds of Bison, a few caribou, sheep, deer, a fox, earlier today I spotted a deer and two black bears over a 5 mile span, the wilderness is loaded with critters it seems.

I have a few videos. I appologize if they are boring and make you sea sick, I filmed most of them while trying to steer the car...I can't figure out how to make a you tube video show up, so search jshick1 if you want to see the videos.



I don't think a detour to Mexico will count towards your Bimmerfest mileage lol. Regina is 1715 miles which is still pretty far away.

Checkin' out the vids on Youtube, classic man, classic. How's that alignment going, those roads remind me of some of the crappy ones we have here around the Bay Area. Keep those vids coming, it's cool to see what you're seeing/encountering.

I'll probably need to have it checked, I've picked up a vibration at about 80 mph, but sometimes it's hard to tell if it's me or the road. I may have out of balance wheels by now too. I actually have to drive the speed limit which seems to be 100 kph in Canada since after 1700 miles of driving at whatever speed I felt like (or could tolerate) I saw 2 cops and they had someone pulled over. so I guess I'm back where there are people and police so I'll go the speed limit. I've discovered going that slow make the exhaust not so loud....

Ok I got my netbook usb ports to work and I got the pictures off the card. I need to leave soon so I'll just put a few up for now. alot of these are no look shots out the window of the moving car, I noticed some are blurred...grr for low light, I should have got out the tripod.






I killed a bird with the zender kit in Alaska....there is bird blood on my car now....

PRIME stuff Alaska, I plan on doing the same throughout my journey. I'll probably do some sort of a video documenting when I'm really bored. I also plan on getting a picture with every "WELCOME TO..." sign I pass everytime I cross into a new state.
