First ED: Another posting after 12 hours

Picked up on Feb. 16th. My wife and I were in three cities in 8 days: London, Munich and Copenhagen.

I was on business, so I had very little free time for posting, etc. Also forgot the camera usb cable was in my bag until the last night of the trip.

Above was shot by the Welt photographer. Was nervous about the interior color combo of saddle and aluminum since I had never seen it in person. Looks fantastic and glad I have something more unique.

Our delivery specialist was Tom. Funny and to the point. Obviously will get more detailed explanations of the car / features at the PCD.

Did the Factory tour last year, so our trip to the welt was pretty quick. Grabbed the engraved keychain and some toy cars for my sons at the gift shop. We also eat lunch at the Welt restaurant. I had a Sashimi salad and my wife had the filet. Quite good, albeit overpriced.

My only driving time was the Welt to the shipping drop-off. Would like to have more time, but enjoyed the experience of driving in a foreign country.

Thanks to Jim Tompkins at United BMW in Atlanta for help making this happen.

And thanks to everyone on this site for all the great information about the ED experience, leasing information, etc. Never been to a more detailed, informative car forum before this.

Below are a few photos from our trip. Thanks again!

On the plane from Atlanta to London. I am a frequent traveler, but this was my first time with Delta's Lie down flat seats. Was actually able to sleep some on the flight over.

Cappuccino during the wait in the premium lounge.

View of mine car from the top of the stairs. They only had 10 deliveries on Tuesday, a very slow, quiet day at the Welt.

Mandarin Oriental room. Loved the heated floors and all the extras. We actually stayed at more expensive hotels in London and Copenhagen, but this was our favorite.

Also, there was a soccer match between Bayern Munich and ACF Fiorentina on the 17th and the Fiorentina team was staying at our hotel. Lots of purple clad Italians in Munich to support their team.

View of interior courtyard of MO.

They were celebrating Fat Tuesday / Carnival in Munich on Tuesday. All the shops were closed and everyone was dressed up. Lots of confetti, street vendors, Bier and schapps.

More crowds near the Marienplatz.

12 person paddle car. Complete with integrated keg on front (not fast enough to get that in the shot)

On the flight from Munich to Copenhagen. First time flying Scandanavian Airlines. Tickets were $13 + taxes.

Classic London neighborhood. Complete with garden / park in the center on a crescent shaped, short street.

Album not complete without shot of Double decker bus in London.

Statue on the Strøget in Copenhagen.

Small square in Copenhagen.

How did you like SAS? I flew home via Copenhagen and had a great flight.

I see you are from Spartanburg. Sure hope you are doing a PCD. Thanks for the pics. Have a great trip home if you aren't already.

Thanks for the comments.

Overall SAS was fine. It was a short flight and everything was pretty much handled by Lufthansa in Munich. The process of walking down to a shuttle and then walking up stairs to the plane in snow is always fun though.

Def. doing the PCD. I found great info here about the one way car rental to GSP and I'll get to see some family up there too.

No more car photos yet. I'll have to wait until redelivery.

Yeah, would have loved more time to drive, but my schedule was pretty tight for work and we were flying to Copenhagen the next day.

Initially, I thought the roads were going to be too bad (Germany in February...) and I didn't want to deal with the extra time and expense with renting the winter tires.

As you can see from the pics though - sunny with clear roads / streets.

After Rolf picked us up from the airport he informed me that it would be totally fine driving with summer tires because of the great conditions (even though he was headed for Spain to join his family and get away from the snow).

Apparently, schools and some businesses are closed the whole week for Fastnacht.

Sweet looking car and a great trip. I liked Copenhagen a lot but it was very expensive. Smart to combine ED with a work trip but it takes from the enjoyment with the car.

Great looking car and pics. How was the PCD re-delivery. Your color combo makes me even more eager for ED on May 28th, the X3 will be space gray with brown saddle.
Enjoy!

Thanks much for the pictures and the summary of your experience. I've been to Munich and the Welt many times but, sadly, am yet to take delivery there.

A couple of small questions:

You mention the restaurant was pricey (agreed); wasn't lunch on BMW, or was this post-delivery.

Also, I assume the night at the MO was on your nickel, not BMW's - correct?

I know Beim Sedlmayr quite well - hope you didn't miss Zum Alten Markt around the corner to your right in the picture.

Thanks, and Prost!

I'll chime in on this... The lunch @ the Welt is not on BMW. As a part of your delivery perks you get E15 off at the restaurant and E10 off at the Welt shops.
You also get full access to the premium lounge for entire day of delivery, which has a cafe with snacks, etc.

Thanks for the comments.

The Performance Center Experience was great. I drove up with my father in law on a Thursday night (about a 2 hour drive from Atlanta). Dropped the rental car of at the airport and we were picked up in an X5 in about 10 minutes.

Received a letter from BMW and 2 drink vouchers at the Hotel desk and then proceeded to eat dinner at the bar while we watched a replay of that day's round of the Masters.

I'm originally from Spartanburg, so the G'ville Marriott is about a great of a Hotel you can get in the upstate apart from some more quaint bed & breakfasts.

The following morning, we rode over to the PCD in a shuttle and began the day on the driving course. I have a few pics and a video I''ll have to post when I get a chance. I believe I was the only one taking delivery that day that signed the guest book.

I had asked for a vehicle overview since it was very brief at the welt and also being my first BMW so that was a nice plus. Props to Jim Tompkins at United BMW for having my temp tag all set up and ready to go.

Also, everyone got to do a Hot lap with Donnie. I keep wanting my side bolsters to 'activate' like they do in the M5

The factory tour was very similar to the one at the Welt.

While I enjoyed the tour, I found the Munich factory offered better vantage points to view the machinery and showed more of the production such as aluminum parts being stamped and the car frames being painted - although as some have already stated, part of the facility was closed of due to the upcoming X3.

Was also very cool to get up close to the various iterations of the X6.

My father in law (in his late 70's) enjoyed the experience and said it was the most fun he'd had in years.

To answer another question, all the meals at the PCD (dinner the night before, breakfast and lunch are on BMW as well as the hotel stay) while you are on your own for ED in Munich for accommodations and meals. I believe lunch at the DO&CO Welt restaurant was 45 euros after the 15 euro credit.

Unfortunately, we didn't have much time in Munich due to my schedule so the only other restaurant I remember was Brenner on the MaximillisnstraBe.
