As far as the Mini Cooper S, I am not a Clubman fan nor do I expect to be a Countryman fan... I'm thinking X3, X1, or 3 series iT or XiT when I am ready to retire the E38. I saw the X1 at the Welt in September and really liked it.

Be very careful with the X3. I had an 07 AT x3. It was in for service 13 times because of the screwy transmission problems some of them have. I now have an MT 08.

I really like the vehicle, but after almost getting killed because it hesitated while entering a roundabout I ended up reaching an agreement with BMW to get the MT.

I will never buy a BMW with the GM6 transmission.

If you decide to get one, my strong advice is to make sure it doesn't have that one. The X5 shifts so smooth I can't tell the transition.

It is like the difference between tae kwon do and aikido. Both very effective but if you know them you will know what I mean. BTW I have studied both and now practice aikido.

Thanks for the heads up, I had checked into those X3 issues. But when the wife test drove an X3, she decided against it and went with the Cooper S instead.

When my car is due for replacement, I will review how the X3 ATs are doing. I really don't want the E38 to be the dogmobile... she got to ride in it once when the truck battery was flat and I had to take her to a vet appointment.

Very nice pics. Only reason we went this route with the MCS is daughter is now 5 and can get in and out of a car on her own.

And if we get a dog soon (we are planning on a lab or GS) we can use my X3.

And btw may tap your brain on tech jobs out there . We are looking to move and Seattle is on our list of places.

Getting scared here - we seem to like the same colors! My X3 is Black, I have the tobacco leather in my 530xi (which is also black) and I am looking at a BRG Mini, convertible with tobacco brown top!

Wow - you can really option them out! Loaded it was $42k MSRP!
