thebear, didn't see your post - sorry. The rebate comes off the negotiated price of the car, but the dealer gets it - in other words, they do not mail you a check.
So, if you get a base model with an MSRP of $55k negotiated down to, say, $50k, the rebate would then take the cost down an additional $4,500 to $45,500.

Does that make sense?

Rob

arjuno - that's a 2010 X5 shown. Even the official BMW X5 announcement email is mixed with 2010 and 2011 images.
On the 2011 there are 4,000 new parts, among them flared fenders, restyled front and rear bumpers, rectangular exhaust outlets, and LED tail lights. I still haven't figured out why BMW can't update their website with the new images already. You would think THEY would get it right!

I think arjuno has it right. That is the 2011. The placement of the fog lights, lesser amount of black trim and the larger air intakes are a giveaway. Why it appears as a 2010 on the site (this is the international bmw site), beats me. Here's some person's take/comparison of the 2010 and 2011.

Actually, acrackl, the link arjuno provided is clearly a 2010 model on BMW's website, not a 2011.
However - the link YOU provided is a great comparison, and looks very accurate. The fenders on the 2011 are a dead giveaway - very prominent. (note my sig photo - same photo - I've had this up for a while...)
Thanks for the link!
(arjuno - I'm not bashing your link - there is so much misinformation put out by BMW itself, it's a wonder any of us have been able to tell one from the other!)

It's ok, np.

But to clarify, it is a MY2011 model, but if you go to the main website and under international and click the drop down for the different models, when you get to X5, there are 2 models in the drop down box. One is just the X5 (this is the actual MY2010) and another has X5 (2010) next to it. Thats the MY2011 and it's also the visualizer that I linked above. I'm not sure why they did the classification that way. I linked that specific visualizer so that Joeyemma could get an idea of the colors available (interior and exterior) for the 2011s.

I can't tell if the fenders are correct, the tail lights and bumpers are 2011, but the exhaust is 2010. Very strange!

@ Westonbimmer

Have you tried calling 800-831-1117 with your production number? I just got confirmed production completion date of 4/20 (not sure if that is a good or bad thing). If you ask for a customer service rep they have more info than the website or the automated phone system.

thebear, where did you hear that you are scheduled for completion on 4/20? I have one of the first allocations, and I don't even have a date scheduled yet. I have checked the website, called the number, spoken to people at BMW as well as my client advisor. All the information is the same - not in production yet.
What is your production number? I wonder how far apart we are - I am 7555363.

Mine is 7557787. It went into the paint shop on Monday and is supposed to be complete today. Getting it on a truck/me picking it up at the PC is another matter completely.

My number is higher than both of yours -- are they counting backwards or something??!! I think that my order went into the system on 3/11.

Barbja, the numbers have nothing to do with the order they make the cars, its all based on dealer allocation for each month. Each dealership will get a range of allocation numbers (7556050-7556070) based on their volume (large/small dealership) for that month.

An example would be when a dealers says we have a few April allocations on the way, but we can give you that slot. What he/she means by that is that the car is production status 112, and that they basically have a spec car with the most common or popular configurations already ordered and headed for the dealer lot. So even though your number is quite a bit higher, your car was already ordered by the dealer long before you even contacted them. They can completely change everything on a production status 112 I believe. Once the car moves beyond 112, I think at that point its "locked" in. I know this was the case with my vehicle and I suspect that it was the same for yours. Weston's might have been ordered later than ours possibly as a custom build.

Dealers will save some of their monthly allocations for custom builds, and others they will already use up and order as spec cars for their lot.

Correct - mine was ordered in March completely from scratch, and I suspect that may have played a role in the slight delay. I ended up adding a 3rd row seat, premium sound, and changing the wood trim to 'dark bamboo' this morning. So maybe everything happens for a reason...
I think it supposed to go into production on Friday or Monday (112 status), so I had a very small window in which to make the changes.

Dealer pricing is going to be dynamic, as a dealer fills his allocation each month via spec (non priority 1) and custom orders and he only has a few allocations left, he's going to try and maximize profit for the last few cars he can order.

I bet he sensed demand was up and with only a few slots left, upped his dealer pricing. I'm sure the free advertising he's been getting from Weston and others posting here about the great deals they've gotten from him had an impact.

If you are in no rush to get an April allocation or even May, hold out for June, when the rush to be the first person on the block to have a 2011 X5 normalizes. You could also widen your dealer search. You never know.

P.S. Just noticed you're from Oregon, Have you tried the LA dealers, I've gotten a good deal from Will Shaw, the internet sales manager at Nick Alexander BMW. He's very active on these forums, send him a PM and tell him I sent you.

beemersn, send me a PM and I'll give you my number. They will do the deal. They have a new sales manager (ironically, the same guy from the other dealer i walked away from!) who is pushing them to make more on the cars, but I happened to speak with Mike last night and he will still do deals for $500 over.
Call me if you want, and I'll conference you guys on the phone. He will do it for $500 over.

arjuno, you're 100% correct - they used up all their allocations - but he will still honor the deal. I made sure of it yesterday when I heard he used them up.

$500 over invoice AND $4500 Eco Credit?

This is a great, thread, and I am happy to hear that people are able to get such good deals (and share them!). I live in Manhattan, and I went to my dealer today to begin the process of pricing out my car. As expected, he would not give me anything except MSRP, until I was "ready to buy." I am really glad that I was able to find the invoice pricing here, so I have a place to start from.

However, he claimed that because of the Eco Credit, that he would "not be able to move" very much on the pricing. I wanted to find out here if people have been able to negotiate $500 over invoice AND still get the Eco Credit? Or does the $500 over invoice include the Eco Credit?

Thanks for the help! And anyone who is in New York City and had a good buying experience, please PM me! I have been waiting for the 2011 X5, and can't wait any longer!

Thanks!
-phillip

Phillip,

I got $4500 off AND $500 over invoice. A few dealers said they couldn't go that low, so I did what I promised I would do if they told me that - I walked and found one that did.

I called them today and verified they will still honor that price, and they will. I am taking my cousin down tomorrow morning (Saturday) to order one to replace his 2009 335d that was a total loss recently.

If you don't find someone in NY, callh Mike Sutherland at Wagner BMW in Shrewsbury, MA. Brian Cho, who I made my deal with, is now running the finance department there.

You will need to tell Rob Carlson (me) referred you, or he will try to get more money from you He has already used up his X5 35d allocations (a lot of people from here have bought from him in the last two weeks!) but he can get you something if you can wait just a bit.

I paid 2k over invoice less the eco credit (=invoice less $2,500). That was with no tough negotiation.
