Request for DICE MEDIABRIDGE Install Guide

Hello,

I would like to have DIY Dice Mediabridge install in my X3. The sticky had a DIY for DICE Installation that is no longer available due to hosting error. Does anyone have a local copy of it?

I have No Nav and No Satellite radio, but have the following from build sheet.

S645A BMW US Radio
S662A Radio BMW Business CD
S677A HiFi System Professional DSP
S692A Preparation, BMW 6-CD changer I-bus
S693A Preparation BMW satellite radio.

So I need to buy Mediabridge itself and a DSP Unit? Can I tap into arm rest wiring and use it?

I have the generic file from Audiovox but need the DIY instructions file that was in the Sticky; more specifically, the arm rest area illustrations.

Take a look at your amplifier. If it has a round coax port ned to the main multiplug that is a coax digital audio necessitating a DSP adaptor.

Alternatively open the glovebox, release the armrest storage bin liner with a firm tug and look under the carpet at the rearmost part for the cables for the CDC. If you have one three pin and one six pin you do not have coax digital audio. If you have one three pin and one coax cable then you need the DSP adaptor.

Really DSP was from 1998 E38's but I suppose you should do your homework before ordering.

I have a DSP in the trunk. Pic attached. I have 4 open plugs wrapped in Velcro by the DSP unit.

Secondly I looked in arm rest area and found many wires etc than I was expecting. Might I add, this car as BMW rear seat DVD entertainment system in headrests.

Another 80$ unit purchase seems likely if I were to go Mediabridge route, or I can just use factory AUX instead and call it a day!

Found this on more research: The BMW DSP Kit is an adapter that is required for most BMW systems that came equipped with the Digital Sound Processor (DSP) option. This adapter is not required in 2006 or later models even if they do have the DSP option. The best way to confirm if your car requires this adapter is to check the external CD changer port in the trunk. If the connection is a 3-pin and 6-pin connection, you do not need this adapter. If the connection is a 3-pin and a co-ax connection, the adapter is required.

The six pin plug with the 4 twisted pair feeds is analogue audio. The coax with the white and pink plug is possibly SDARS along with the 12 pin plug. Can you see the amplifier?

I can't find the amplifier. There are 2 units in the left rear. One is the DSP pictured and another is the Continental unit with BT pairing code sticker on it.

That LEAR thing is the amp. The coax to it looks similar to this.

thanks joylove. I will look at the Amp today.

Can someone help me understand the difference between the two? Is it same device and different branding or something else?

Audiovox bought DICE media bridge.

I'd try to get the latest HW version if you can find the information.

Upon further fishing in the center console area, I located a 3 pin and 2 six pin adapters wrapped in velcro tucked far below. One of the six pin was labeled SARS something.

So I can order Mediabridge unit only (no DSP) and use the 3 pin and non SARS labeled 6 pin to mediabridge cable.

My goal is to only use this for BT audio, iPhone charging and want to BMW assist BT for handsfree calls.

Will mediabridge power off after turning vehicle off? I noticed my 12V outlet near shifter is always on hence can drain battery if any device is plugged in.

SDARS is sirius satellite radio.

SDARS reciver uses the same audio pins as the CDC. It goes in series. Hence there are two sets of wiring options.

1) factory:
The CDC audio connected to the HU is routed to the armrest area.

2) optional:
The HU is removed, the SDARS labelled audio wiring is unwrapped from the loom and connected to the HU replacing the armrest CDC audio and the HU is refitted. The SDARS module is fitted at the rear of the car (12 pin black previously seen above in post #5). The second armrest CDC audio connector (labelled SDARS) is now active.

VenkatV you need to use the unlabeled 6 pin twisted pair audio.

I got it today and install took less than 15 mins. Thanks for all the help!

Few quirky things noticed after battery disconnect and reconnect.

>Brake and 4x4 light came on yellow and turned off after a short drive. I read elsewhere it is ok.

>Passenger side exterior mirror (glass only) not now turns all the way inside (now I can't use unless mirror adjustment switch is flipped, it bends down like it should.)

Mediabridge quirks:
>When in Mediabridge source; power off HU after vehicle is turned off is somewhat delayed. Like 30 seconds after vehicle is locked, HU went off.

>When in Mediabrige mode, HU turn off is pressing volume dial twice in succession?
