2011 X5 35i: Premium or Sport Activity?
I'm about to order a '11 35i Black/Black. I was pretty set on Premium level, but now am considering the Sport Activity. What do you all think? What do the 20" wheels do to ride/performance? Sport seats better? Worth the +$2,500? Any comments appreciated!

What are your performance expectations? If you want an SUV that mimics a sports car, it's worth it. If you want an SUV that mimics a minivan, not. For sure, the 20" wheels will make the ride coarser on maintenance deferred urban pavement.

If you get the Sport Activity Package with the optional 20" RFTs, spend extra and get the multi-contour seats. They take the edge out of the ride quality.

I went with the Sport Activity. It has several other features besides the 20"wheels. On a side note, was told today by BMW the side view camera is delayed now until Oct. Looks like mine will be without it as I take delivery in August.

Since you're ordering for 2011, I say go for the SAP. The 2010 models didn't include the 330 sport suspension in the SAP, but the 2011s do. I did lengthly test drives of three 2010s last week one after another: 3.0, 3.0+M Sport package (includes 330 sport and adaptive drive -- the SAP only has the 330 sport), 35d. You could really tell the difference between the two 3.0s. The plain one drove like a van by comparison, however the 35d took off like a rocket compared to the two and I believe was more fun to drive by far. I'm planning on getting the 35d+SAP+adaptive drive (you can't get an M Sport package on the 35d; I'd get it if you could).
I currently have a 2003 X5+sport (SAP included sport suspension then) and I'd never buy one without it. Barb |

The "sport suspension delete" is the standard option with the sport package...does that mean you can undelete it and get a different suspension? I ordered a 5.0 with the SAP and was not aware the suspension was any different....

My SA showed me the 2010 package details sheet and the SAP showed "sport suspension delete" (like it does on the 2010 web configurator) and then the 2011 package details sheet, which specifically listed "330 sport suspension" under the sport activity package. On the ultimate order screen, the sport suspension wasn't mentioned at all, however, the package name wasn't "SAP Sport Activity Package" anymore, it was "330 Sport Package" (with all the included stuff under it).

Peter, go to www.bmw.com, under international tab, click the x5 (2010). Once you get to that page, at the bottom there is a configure tab. Use that to check the look of the rims, the type 334 used to be standard for the 35i and 35d (I remember seeing them there but they took the 334 out, they might be called type 210 now because thats what is the base standard on the 2011 ordering sheet from my dealer), unless you get the sport package (SAP). That bumps the rims to the 335 as standard, and then you pay an additional 950 for the type 336 20" rims (my favorite) in the SAP. Hope that helps.

Here's what my CA emailed to me today re. the 35i:
The standard wheels on the Sport Activity Package are the 214 style 20". The optional wheels are the 19" style 335 or with the M Sport Package you get the 20" style 333M. |

Premium or SAV
I am guessing the 19 inch wheels will do better in the snow than the 20's. Does it make sense to get the Premium then?
