Hello Friends,
Recently I started hearing a somewhat strange rattle-like noise from the what sounds like the air-con compressor in the front. It's only present while the system is on and when the car is in gear/drive. Goes away in neutral and it appears to be related to engine speed. Sounds similar to a plastic card flapping against the spikes of a bicycle. Air-con works just fine. And of course, if I switch the systen off - sound diappears. My guess - pulley bearing/clutch? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Arc Last edited by ArcspacE; 03-10-2010 at 03:51 AM. |

I have a similar noise when my air con / fan is on - except mine sounds more like a bird chirping. Also seems to be dependent on engine speed.

Have same noise. Turn A/C off during winter but soon need to find out how to fix. Dealership didn't notice anything but offer change belts. I change belts and pulleys and noise still there when A/C on. What mileage on the your car? mine 115k km.

Hey fellas,
Thanks for the input. The noise comes and goes randomly. Also have noticed - it appears more prominent/present at the lowest fan speed/coldest temp setting. As far as the bird-like chirping - I've noticed a similar noise once or twice, again at low fan speeds. Microfilter? |

No way, Microfilter? Yo mean cabin filter or filter inside metal can which is near passenger side headlight? Cabin filter is 2 month new in mine car and did not make a difference about noise.

Could be, mate.
The sound reduces is prominence as I adjust the temperature from cold to warm from the rotary dail between the air vents, i.e. noise goes away. Really confused. |
