So you're putting an e46 engine into your e36? That's dope.

Don't you have to make a new wire harness?...

Nope... The wiring is completely different... I can even convert it to OBD1 and run an m50 engine harness it won't be that hard

What is the time frame you are expecting to complete your build?

Eta will be after may 21st because dad said he'll help me only if I do good in school and my last final is on the 21st but I'm gunna pick up parts and have the headgasket done, raise the compression, port and polish the intake and exhaust ports and port and polish the valvetrain... All in all she will be like a new engine when going into michelle

yeah but do note none of your gauges or AC will work and your gonna swap an OBDII engine in an OBDI car...where are all the extra sensors gonna go? and the M54 uses a drive by wire throttle so thats gonna be fun too...

agian...not trying to burst your bubble just curious...

How much research has been looked into this project?

I'm reading on bf.c and other sites, this is a very very hard project Frank. I would just go with an m3 engine. IMHO.

But if you pulled this off, holy sh!t, I would be so stoked for you.
