I'd do with the F1 clutch setup. I'm very happy with mine. And you'll be happier knowing that it will hold the horsepower if you supercharge it.

I really fail to see the point in this swap. With the money you are spending you could have a nice m52 set up.

M52's are much better/easier to modify. You can go turbo down the road with little to no worries. In NA form you can throw in a set of s52 cams and that alone will be equal to the m54b30. You also will not lose your OBDII functionality.

The m54b30 is going to be more of a headache, you aren't even keeping it OBDII compliant and you'll have a harder and more expensive modification route when the time comes.

Take a step back and realistically consider your options because at the end of the day you are going to have an m54b30 that will still get walked by M's and on par with 328's. Save all that money it would take to go with the M54 and put it into an e36 chassis motor.

It's you're money and time but I think doing the swap just to do it is pointless. It's a neat concept but totally not worth the hassle, you aren't gaining any advantage that you could get with an
S52 or M52. Just my .02 and this is coming from someone who has considered many an engine swap.

If you go this route, then good luck. I'd be interested to see the finished product.

I fail to see how I'm going to get walked my a 328 if the engine is going to run off of s50 electronics.... Also the engine is around 100lbs lighter

Oh, I dig the headers but we've all seen headers thousands of times. I thought you were putting a stock M54 in your car. That's why I was like "lolwut?"

Do you intend to somehow install that E46 M3 Muffler? I am confused.

Not to hi-jack this thread but just a quick question, there is a guy selling an S52 engine in Tampa and I was wondering if there was any chance to plugging that bad boy into my turtle of a car? 1997 318i

Its on craigslist and here is what he wrote:

"Also, 98 M3 S52 3.2L engine with 5 speed tranny ecu harness and everything for only 2,500 this is dirt cheap for a low mile engine has 120k very good shape, i have 98.9% 990 positive feedback and power seller status on ebay."

Any chance of this being done and what would be the cost of labor since I am no mechanic.

Also has a M52 from a 1998 323is would that work better?

Yea matt I need to drop this engine in quick because it is absorbing all of my funds ...

Yes phill I'm cutting out the spare tire well and welding in sheet metal and bolting the exhaust in in place and going to make some sort of custom diffuser...

Ed my engine harness is inside that box so I guess in the car lol...

And yea man I would do the s52 swap if I was you but I would convert it all to obd1 because you will make more power and it will be easier to drop in..

I'm on my phone now but when I have a chance I'll pm you the link for the 4>6 cylinder swap thread
