I recently took delivery of a 2010 X5 35d. I live in Woodbridge, ON (near Toronto).
I am able to use my iPhone in the car using the supplied Y cable, but I have reading online about that nifty snap-in adapter for the iphone, and I think it would be a lot more convenient than plugging in the phone into the y-cable and letting it loose. Better reception through connection with the car's antenna would be a nice bonus as well. However, when I inquired at my dealer, they said there is no such thing. Also, the bmw.ca website doesn't list it in the accessories page, although I can easily find it on bmwusa.com So the question is: Is that adapter somehow not compatible with my car? I'm thinking of bringing it in from the states if I travel, but I would want to be 100% sure it will work with my car. Any experiences with these adapters in Canada? Thanks, |

The guy at the dealership seems misinformed. The adapter is just a plastic piece specific for each smartphone (iPhone etc) that snaps into the area near the armrest. Not only does it allow you to use the sharkfin antenna for better reception, it also allows you to charge the smartphone via the adapter. I would think that it wouldn't be an issue with compatibility from an unit picked up in the US.

It looks like these are the parts you need:
Eject Box frame 84 21 2 153 098 Snap-in Adapter iPhone 3g (3gs) 84 21 2 158 682 iPhone (non-3g) 84 10 9 182 792 6NF (so that music can play too): iPhone 3g (3gs) 84 21 2 158 683 iPhone (non-3g) 84 10 9 164 213 The question is: Do you need the snap in adapter -AND- 6NF, or is 6NF a special version of the snap-in adapter? I was unsure from reading the document: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...NPDLm5sTBMw0bA |

Oops, it looks like that is an eject box for an X5 E53 instead of an X5 E70. The bmwusa site says that the snap-in adapter requires the eject box, but the manual doesn't. However, the bmwusa site is X5 generic; perhaps the E53 needs it and the E70 doesn't.
The best policy is probably to ask a parts department: I have bluetooth/USB and want 6NF, what else do I need now? |
