Is there a way to turn off the alarm chirp when I lock my doors?
I hate the loud conspicuous sound my car alarm makes every time I lock and unlock the door. It's like I'm making a presentation to the entire parking lot: "Here I am and my car is now armed. Look at me! Look at me! Here I am. I'm unlocking my car!!"
It's embarrassing and unnecessary. Is there a way to turn off the door locks chirping without disabling the alarm?

I think that's a dealer-do.

Try to find a independent BMW repair shop in your area that has a GT1 or Autologic diagnostic tool. They should be able to do it as well as the dealer.

the chirp shows your driving a classy luxury car. kind of like a lexus. why would you want to get rid of that?! and i believed it would be ... "Here I am and my BMW is now armed. Look at me! Look at me! Here I am. I'm unlocking my BMW!!"

The chirp helps me find the thing instead of hitting the panic switch.

It's a dealer-programmable option. You can have the turnlights blink, the audible chirp or both or neither. These options can be set for both arming and disarming.
Here's a list of the car and key programmable options: http://www.e38.org/B090398_Att2_CKMSet.PDF First post. Hi everybody.

Going to the dealer doesn't sound right. It's an easy switch using the E36 key fob, don't know why BMW would remove a feature when moving up the line. Although no telling why they do things.
I'll check out the instructions on how I do it for the M3. IIRC it's as simple as holding the button down a few seconds.
