Code 1349 (Misfire Cylinder 4 With Fuel Cut-off ). What needs to be done?

The SES, rough idle, shaking, noises around the engine area came back, and my OBDII scanner shows just one code: P1349. Ok, so what should I start out looking at now?

Here's the thing: About 3 weeks ago, I was experiencing similar symptoms but the codes I got were different (P1085, PO171, PO174, PO313). I went to a shop and shelled out a massive $1700 to have my MAF sensor, ALL 6 ignition coils, and control valve/gasket/hose replaced. Basically, I got ripped off, but the codes went away and the car drove smoothly...until today...when the SES came back on.

So from reading around here, ppl with P1349 code seem to have done different things:
1) replace oil cover gasket
2) replace "coil pack" (is this the same as an ignition coil?)
3) test the signal to the cylinder (how do I do this?)
4) replace spark plugs (i replaced all 6 exactly one year ago)

I'm very confused (and inknowledgeable with cars). What should I be checking for now?

Typically the best approach (to simply isolate the problem) is to swap your coil from cylinder 4 with another one. If the same code occurs in the other cylinder, the coil is your problem. However, since your coils were replaced fairly recently, your problem may have a different source. Keep us posted on your progress.

Search for BlueBee's recent post on a similar topic. That thread is more focused on understanding the problem and discusses other options to pursue.

The shop replaced the 6 Ignition coils (aka coil pack) for you. What brand did they use? Bremi, Bosch, or some knockoff?

You are better off at:

Hey cn90, thanks for the info. It's funny but I bought my car at Southbay BMW, but I live in a different county so that's why I don't know about this shop. But, yeah, I'll definitely pay them a visit. How did you know about this place, because I notice that you are in Nebraska?
