2011 X5 Colors

I'm new to the forum and preparing to order a 2011 X5 diesel. From what I can tell, it looks like a couple of colors have been discontinued -- Monaco Blue, Deep Green, and Mineral Green. Can anyone confirm this? Also, has anyone seen Platinum Gray on any BMW model in person? I'm considering that and wondered what it looks like. Thanks for your help!

You are correct about the discontinued colors for '11. But there are new colors as well: Sparkling Bronze, Deep Sea Blue and Vermillion Red.

Vermillion Red isn't new...it has been a P1 option for the last two years. In 2011, dealers can now stock for their inventory. Deep Sea Blue is hot, seen it on a 5er!

I'm getting Deep Sea Blue and I hope its great!

I thought that the Monaco Blue from 2010 looked too black. I have a 2003 X5 in Topaz Blue now and I love it. We put the DSB sample on my car and it looks like it will be a shade darker.

I don't know what it is about gigantic dark blue cars -- I saw a shiny new medium blue Cayenne Sport in my rear view mirror the other day and it was just beautiful. I've never seen one that color before -- only tan and silver and black and blah... Container Store parking lot; luxury car owners like to be organized .

If you're purchasing from a local dealer, they should have paint swatches that are approx 5x7". Take both the Monaco and Deep Sea Blue out in the sun and see what you think.

When I was checking out a 3rd row seat, I looked closely at the paint on the car and noticed that it was 'blue'. The SA told me that it was the Monaco blue. It was parked between two black Xs. When I got a reasonable distance away, I couldn't tell that the MB was any different than the two black ones (it was across the drive to my own X -- 7 car lengths maybe).

I think that DSB is probably on the darker side of the BMW blue spectrum, but you'll still be able to tell that the car is actually blue. The year that I bought my car, you could get a V8 in the blue color from the BMW roundel (oh my!). Ok now, everyone imagine THAT color gigantic!

Vermillion Red, I think its kinda cool and very rare as I have only seen ONE on the streets, as opposed to the 99.9% of black, white, silver & grey. But I really don't think this color age as well as the other more popular colors, that's why I went with...... you guessed it, Black Sapphire! I had Jet Black before, so lets see which blk is better!

I prefer vermillion red as well but this color is not available with M Sport pack. Bright color like red it really will make the black plastic trim around the bottom standout which I feel not very attractive. I end up ordered White with M Sport pack. BTW, M Sport pack only available on Space Gray, Deep Sea Blue, Alpine White, Titanium Silver, Carbon Black and Black Sapphire.

You can always paint the blk bits in the body color.

0428, yes that is one option or I was thinking just order the M Aerodynamics Package as parts then paint it red and install. Also, another reason I didn't go with this route is the production date. White is good for April production and red will have to wait until end of May.

$6k for some cosmetic stuff is very high, painting them will cost you under $1k. The M pac only makes sense if you get the lighter colors, so that people can see that you have it. If you get it in blk, you are essentially wasting your money since no one will tell the difference if you had the kit or not.

I agree, M Sport pack only makes sense with lighter colors that shows exterior lines. BMW should really consider remove one of darker color then replace with Vermillion Red to make it available with M Sport pack.

LOL hope BMWNA is listening. That is two votes right here for them to reconsider package offer on Vermillion Red.

Oh -- I just found this in the X6 forum when I was searching for Oyster. It has several photos of an X6 in deep sea blue with oyster interior. This should give a reasonable idea of what the X5 will look like in DSB:

Those are the pics that I used when making my decision about what color to get. Ended up going with V Red/Oyster Interior for my MY11 35d.

You're right. Monaco Blue is very dark, darker than Deep Sea Blue. It's sad to see Monaco Blue go. Vermillion Red on Charcoal or Black or Tan is however fabulous.

I got the M package on my 2010 in carbon black. It looks sick in the sun when it gets a blue and purple tint. And you can tell it has an M package. I love it.
