My key fob is not making the clicking sound and staying in place when I am trying to put the fob in. I get an alert with a picture of a key with a slash through it.

any ideas on why this is happening and how I can fix it???

Do you have the comfort access feature? Also if your key is not fully charged, this indication will come up as well. One of my FOB had this issue and the dealer replaced the battry and reprogram it. The car will reject the key if it cannot pick up the signal so you may have a battery issue in the FOB

Your battery might be dead. the Key actually has two battries and one controls the comfort access. If you have been driving with the FOB in in the ignition for a while, it should have been charging. If you have not placed it in the ingnition slot for a while then the battery is dead. It's easy to forget to charge since you have gotten used to just pressing the start button. If you have the second FOB, try it and see but all indication is pointing to the FOB battery.

you can buy the button battery from any store... remove the actual key from the holder and look at the holder from the back and the part that the metal key exposed there is a small slot that you can pry open and the battery will come out...

it should not need reprogramming....

but it could also be the key itself is bad... but I'd try the battery replacement before spending money at the dealer unless you're under warranty

Thanks for the responses. I will go get a new battery and try it out. Worst case I have an extended warranty on the car and I will take it to the dealer if it doesn't work. I will let you guys now how it turns out!

Once again thanks for the help!

After looking at the slot I felt around it and found that the latch inside was just stuck and the system was looking for a key but it wasn't in there. i just pushed the latch up and everything works great now! I also changed the battery in remote just to be on the safe side.
