Besides physically checkin the dipstick, those are the only two other ways you will know its low so if its telling you so, then it's more than a quart low and you probably have a leak somewhere....

this car has no dipstick. you might of lost some oil. make sure your oil plug is tightened up. just got buy 2 quarts of oil and add one at a time and see what happens. if i were you i would just go get a new oil change. also make sure you have no leaks

+1 No dipstick.

Probably a slow leak somewhere...or, it wasn't completely filled at the last change. I'd just get another oil change as well and have them check that everything is tight.

Have you people opened the hood?? There is a dip stick and you can physically check it. Both the 745 and the 750 have dip sticks. There is also a drip pan, If you bought your car used it is possible that the car burns oil, its very possible as stupid people really think that you can go 15k miles w/o the oil breaking down or being changed. change your oil more often every 5k and you should burn less.

Really? LOL....I have to admit, I am under the impression there isn't one but haven't checked myself. I thought the only way to check the level is in the I-Drive.

As you can tell.......I don't spend much time changing my own oil.

There is not a dipstick for the transmission level like in an american car, but there is an oil level dipstick. These cars are known to burn some oil so if you are only changing your oil every 15K then you will most likely see the low oil light come on.

ya but why open your hood when the screen right infront of your face has a level and shows you...

just pop the hood and dump 1 qt of 5w30 synthetic oil...the bmw engines burn a little bit of oil, its normal and its normal to add a qt in b/w oil changes

Thanks Bro! I know I haven't lost my mind! I change my own every 5K for less than half what the dealer charges and reset my own I Drive. The I Drive won't show small oil level changes. When its saying low after shutdown, It's really low like more than a qt. $150-200 is what the dealer is going to charge. And one more thing, those of you who are topping your oil and not acurately checking, TOO MUCH OIL IS AS BAD AS TOO LITTLE OIL!! Too much causes blown seals and seal leaks!

There is always a dipstick... Please open the hood and check your vital fluids sometimes.

It has come to my attention that the bmw 7 series has dipstick that is located near the back of the engine when the hood is opened, at least thats how it looks on my 05. When I look at it, I marvel at how it was engineered to throw everyone off, even the keenest of mechanics. It is with the precisesness of an astronaut that the dipstick actually looks like it is for the transmission, fooling almost all of the PHD's we have on this web site. Its really stupid now that I think about how they made it look like this. I really could care less about the dipstick at this moment, but it is interesting to say the least.

Check for leaks and top off oil. These cars can burn up some oil at 15k intervals. i know this topic has been discussed a million times, but changing oil at 12-15k interval is ideal or once a year whatever comes first. Changing oil at 5k intervals just gives you piece of mind and waste your money. BMW uses Castrol 5w-30 fully synthetic.

I have a 2006 750i BMW, I'm thinking about replacing the airfilters (2) and changing the oil myself and does anyone knows if I need to reset both service checks MICROFILTER AND OIL CHANGE? and how?

If you dont have any leaks (visible) it could very well just be a gasket leak- which could be putting oil in your fuel supply (by the plugs), check for white smoke when you put the pedal down. Not THAT big of a deal really, but could be your problem.
