Ceramic controls anybody?

Has anybody ordered ceramic controls. I have seen mixed reports that it does / doesn't include the shifter. Can anybody that "HAS THE CERAMIC CONTROLS PACKAGE" confirm?

I have the Ceramic Controls Package...and I LOVE, LOVE it. The HVAC controls front and rear are ceramic, iDrive knob as well as the gear shift lever. At first I thought the Ceramic Package was a waste of $, until I saw a 7 Series without it! While it does not look bad at all without the Ceramic Pkg, it looks so incredible with it. Honestly, I have had at least 3-4 people comment on the look and feel of the ceramic controls. I HIGHLY recommend it!!

I have the Ceramic Controls and enjoy the feel and look, but I don't see why they are not standard on such an expensive car.

Although I prefer BMW ergonomics over all competitors and like the standard controls I have had on our other bimmers, I couldn't imagine the new 7 without the upgrade. This level of quality really should be part of the base price. ( the same could be said for a number of the other options though...)

I would not have ordered ceramic controls but I bought a 2010 closeout from dealer inventory and it had the ceramic controls on it. I really like the look and feel, but honestly I'm not sure I'd add it if ordering today. Seems a little decadent, but heck the whole car is decadent. Also on the car I bought but not something I would have ordered are the leather dash (love it), the driver assistance package (don't really use it), and cameras (like them). I also have the HUD which I really like except my polarized REVO sunglasses block 90% of the brightness. It's fantastic at night though. I'd order HUD again.

Didn't care for it, and I like aluminum anyway so it was an easy decision for me.

Samlambo, you have the standard controls. You have siliver aluminum trim on the knobs and the face of the shifter. The Ceramic controls color is more charcol grey anodized with a glossy coating on it. I assume the coating is a vapor deposition surface.

This is just so sad. They charge us US$210k for the lowest range 7 series and than throw in standard options. This I will surely feedback to the agent.

Wow back from the dead. 4 year old thread. Ceramic can be retrofitted for like 6x the cost of factory install. I love ceramic vs standard personally. Much more robust feel.

It's only like $600 more I think from factory. Must have IMO.

The issue for retrofitting is BMW doesn't have a ceramic control retrofit "package" so one must buy each unit and not the knobs thus exploding the price to at least 4x original option package price. For example the Radio control has the single ceramic trim around the on/off/volume knob but to replace that you must purchase the entire radio head unit that includes the knob with the ceramic trim (if I remember correctly BMW charges $250 for this unit). There is a thread started by imagineer who actually did this to his 5er. Also Shawn Sheridan (the coding guru) did this to his as well. I've been trolling junk yards and eBay trying to source some ceramic knobs with no hits.

Ceramic adds 50hp so it might be worth it.

From how I understand it, you have to update the car to accept the new units. Reminds me of organ transplants.
