Daytime Running Lamps

Hello fellow bm'ers, I have a 01 X5 4.4 (along with a 02 996 Turbo) and would really like to have a switch on my Daytime Lights (they are on whenever the motor is on). This can be VERY inconvenient if you just happen to parked somewhere, finishing a beverage or something else before heading out. With the lights on I may as well have a neon sign stating someone is home! Do I have to go to the dealer to get the things turned off? - is the only solution? Any help or links or suggestions would be great - Thank you

Welcome to Bimmerfest.

Whoever purchased your X5 brand-new told the dealership they wanted the DRL's turned ON. You can go back to the dealer and let them know you want them programmed OFF. There is no switch for them.

Actually no one, but when you go out in Austin at night it can be difficult to get a parking spot. So when you get one on the street and you need to be 'parked' for several minutes, you get lot's of drive by's that will stop if your lights are on - thinking your leaving...

Thank you! Seems odd that this is the only option, but if that's the way it is - so be it. i'm off to the dealership!
