Rolex service is ~5 yrs, not once a year.
In the past 20 years I've purchased 7 new and 3 used.
Only ever had four at a time, I would buy/sell/trade just for fun.

Broken units are much more expensive to service, especially if they are rare models like old Daytonas, Cosmographs, etc.
My Tudor, Pre-Tiger, Cosmograph was running about $575 per 5 yr service.
Bought new for $975 in 1989, sold at $6500 last fall.

Run of the mill stuff is cheaper.
Call you local service center, I've always found them very helpful.
I use Rolex NYC at 665 Fifth Ave 212.758.7700

It's all well explained in the docs in the box, re service intervals.

I've seen them run 10+ without service, but like anything with wear points it needs cleaning and lubricants sometime.

I highly suggest these people-

tarrytownjewelers.com

They are negotiable on all their prices and will custom build a Rolex to your specifications.
This is why you are a d!ck.

They have a green Miliguass AND they want to buy my GMT.

I dont know weather to curse or thank you.

Wow!

Post some pics of your dad's Pateks!

One day I would love to own a Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar, but the lowest end new model is $30K (which is less than I pay for private school annually).

It's all good.

I might buy your GMT. I have been looking to add one to the collection. The green miliguass is very cool.

That's why you gotta move fast! They're the best because their prices are the best, but that also means their products move quick!

Just ask them to find you one and they will call you when they get it in.

Great concept, his site is hard to navigate though. A person should be able to see Rolex, and all the different brands by themselves, not jumbled together, as well as being able to sort by price, model, etc.

His prices are competitive too.

I agree the site's design isn't the best. At least when I choose a brand, it shows all those watches in that brand and then starts at the first letter of the alphabet.

I've tracked a few good buys from the site in the past. I'm always gun shy to buy a watch online.

Last year, or two years ago when the Milgauss came out, everyone was getting twice retail for it, it was insane.

well looks like it may be the middle or late summer before i go forth and buy something. bs taxes that i have to pay are going to hold me back, but not for long.

i still think i'm set on a Rolex Daytona. the Submariner looks a lot like my current watch, just not as cheap. maybe i'll just use my current watch for wearing to work once i get a new one. my current watch that i wear often is a 21 jewel automatic Japanese movement, its been quite reliable in the 8 years i've had it. i dont wear it every single day though, that might be why.

i did like the Omega Speedmaster i looked at, this one had a diamond bezel. sort of what i was going for. they are chanel set and are round diamonds, not baguette or princess cut, which i think looks a lot nicer and has more fire from more facets. Tag Heuer is a bit more affordable, but just not as nice as my first two choices i looked at.

there is one place that i know of here locally that buys and sells Rolex and other finer watches, i will be looking there possibly tomorrow as i remember them having a decent selection years back.

this is a watch i wore throughout high school. Citizen Navihawk. it needs to be worked on. i've asked just about every jewelery store that sells this brand, even ones that sell high end watches to work on it. they all tell me they have to send it off, is this some kind of crazyness? it needs to be calibrated along with a new battery. by the way this is on top of my laptop, not the car.

You can get a nice pre-owned GMT or sub for $3k...a Daytona is 3x that much, IIRC.

i do plan to pretty much shop around for it first, instead of jumping on just one single finding. i do see it as a total investment though, not just a simple purchase. by this time next year, i'd like to have two or three new watches. i'll keep my options open.

Omega Speedmaster

well today when i took my diamond ear rings in for the scheduled inspection and cleaning i decided to see about getting my Citizen fixed. i swear that every shop i had asked before gave me a lame excuse why they couldnt change the battery in it or set it. well, i took it in to a mom and pop jewelry shop to get some new pins and battery installed. they couldnt set it though, but they did replace the battery which not even Zales would do!

well i took it upon myself to do a little research. there is no reason i would ever have to send it to Citizen for adjustment! i looked on the Citizen web site and there it was! asks for the model number from the case back, a viola, a whole set of simple instructions. i opted to use the video instructions on how to do a complete reset of the hands and whatnot. so i've reset the watch myself, works perfect, spent $16 on the pins and battery. no need for a watch dealer. now i have my watch working again, so i'll be wearing it regularly to work now. yea!!!

my poor Navihawk has been useless since late 2005! now back in commission

this still is no Rolex or Omega though, but i'm still doing research on them and contemplating the right one/s for me.

here's a handsome bracelet i found. may be picking that up as well. solid stainless steel with small diamond accents, utilizes screw in pins

That looks like an interesting deal. Watch, three extra watch bands, hard case, the tool to change the band, and a 5 year warranty for $270. Plus, according to them, it's a $2600 deal. I may pick one up too.

Talking Found Some Vintage Watches

i was looking through what my grandma had setting in a drawer since i was on the subject of cleaning jewelry. found this old Timex Electric Dynabeat that was my grandfathers and also found a vintage Benrus 21 jewel wind up ladys watch. thought they were pretty interesting considering they are in pretty good condition. i have the Timex apart for cleaning.

oh and i decided to go ahead and buy that H link braclet i saw. from what i've found, it is being discontinued with the diamonds inset. looks amazing!

can anyone recommend a jewelry forum? namingly for finer jewelry, watches, rings, diamonds and such? although some of you guys seem fairly interested.
