Extended Platinum Warranty on BWM 2011 335D

Hello all, this is one awesome forum. I've been a long time lurker and finally signed up to post my very first question/request.

Could you please PM me the price for the extended platinum warranty 6yrs/100,000 miles on the car I am about to order. I have quotes from the local dealerships ranging from $1,967 to $2,800. Someone mentioned that the true cost dealership gets these at is around $1500, that makes the quotes above from somewhat reasonable to not so reasonable

This is the vehicle below, and as this is an order there is no VIN just yet.

2011 BMW 3 Series 4dr Sedan 335d RWD
Exterior: Alpine White
Interior: Black
Options:
BMW ASSIST (639)
CONVENIENCE PKG (ZCV)
DVD-BASED NAVIGATION SYSTEM (609)
HEATED FRONT SEATS (494)
PADDLE SHIFTERS (2XA)
PREMIUM PKG (ZPP)
SPORT PKG (ZSP)

A private message with a quote for extended platinum warranty will be much appreciated.

Thank You,
Vadim

You should really deal with the finance manager and not sales people.

The FM is the one that actually sells the warranties and can be contacted via email for quotes directly allowing you to bypass various overhead structure.

Thank you for the reply. The sales people I dealt with passed on the quotes from their Finance Managers directly. I am not very impressed with those quotes and hope someone over here can provide something better. If you have an email of a good FM I will take it and email them this same question.

Thanks again,
Vadim

In the past I emailed several FM, told them I was price shopping and wanted to know the lowest price they would take for a warranty.

Out of 5, 2 charged full price, the other three were slightly above cost.

Those are GREAT prices, I would buy the 1967 in a heartbeat!

Numbers I've heard as MSRP for the Platinum are all well over 3500.

1500 as a cost? I don't believe that.

(We are talking Platinum, not Gold, and not Powertrain, right?)

Keep in mind extended warranties can be purchased any time during the 4 year warranty.

I would wait until the end as the car may be totalled or traded. You never no.

@sdbrandon, I tend to keep my cars for 7 years or better, at least that is the current trend. 2 previous vehicles I have, are 11 and 7 years old, both have been maintained well, and will serve me of someone else for long time to come. I like the warranty because when you treat the car well and something does break, it's nice to not have to pay for it.

I figured that while buying the car I have the most negotiating power with the Finance Manager. If I cannot agree with them, I would prefer to know if someone else out there can offer me a better price as I plan to buy it now. The trend that I have seen with extended warranties is that they go up yearly. Ask people what they paid for their extended warranty 2 years back, it's less than it is today.

@ard, I do not know if $1967 is platinum for sure, the $2800 is, or at least that's what the sales person claims. I have heard the $3380 price earlier today, and that seemed outrageous. I am still waiting for any quotes from people from here or maybe what people paid so that I know what a good deal is.

Thanks again.

The sales people will just lie to you. They know it isn't binding yet, or will claim "oh, I thought you wanted the fidelity platinum"... whatever.

Seriously, even $2800 for a 6/100 platinum is a great price- based on my limited research.

It depends on how you drive. The average person drives 12k miles per year. This means, if they had the warranty, they would only be covered for 6 years or 72k miles. They would be paying $2800 for insurance within the 50k-72k mile range or basically as 22k mile warranty.

Insurance is a win overall in the favor of the insurance company. However, if you drive 20k miles or mor eper year, the bet would work more in your favor.

@sbrandon we put 72 miles per work day on the car, or at the minimum 18k miles per year. I feel that we will def hit 100k before 6th year is up. Granted most of those are highway miles, but still.

Vadim, I received your message. I'll forward you the answer when I'm back in the office. I can tell you this though, without even looking at program pricing, the $1,967 quote was not for a BMW Platinum EVP. It is much higher.

An update for those that follow this thread. $1,967 and $2,800 are NOT BMW platinum warranty. One is Warrantech and another is some other warranty, also not BMW.

Got more quotes from local dealerships and BMW Extended Platinum Warranty ($50 deductible) seems to be going for:

6yrs/100,000 miles for $3380
7yrs/100,000 miles for $3900

The fact that multiple dealerships gave me this price tells me that this is the MSRP price for that warranty. Now, the question is can it be had for less?

@BMWofBloomfield, I will be looking forward to your response. It is much appreciated.

Here's the MSRP pricelist for BMW extended warranties, obtained from Xoutpost. I don't have info about invoice pricing, but this will at least give you a starting point....
