I use Mobil 1 High Mileage for my '98 328is with 97,xxx miles. Your oil weight will depend on the time of year. Take a look at the chart in the owners manual to figure out what oil weight to use based on the seasonal temperature range. By the way, changing oil on an E36 could not be easier. Since you'll be saving boat loads of money by not having someone else change it for you, there's no excuse to skimp and use anything but the best oil & filter. Your BMW will love you for it.

Oil change

Thanks....... I am assuming this is a synthetic oil? I am just heading out to get the oil.
I am without a repair manual..... can you let me know where the oil filter is located.

Cheers
