E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

You can't change it, it recharges when you drive UNLESS you have the comfort access option where you don't put the fob in the slot but keep it in your pocket. Those have a replaceable battery and don't recharge.

Never say can't. I have read of them being carefully pried open and the battery replaced.

Thanks for your replies, I've double checked the key is a sealed unit and it does say in the BMW user manual it recharges itself when it's placed in the fob slot. The problem I have with my spare fob it opens the doors and boot but doesn't lock the car, seems like the middle button is faulty/broken. Would it be possible for me to purchase a second hand key fob from eBay and pair it up with the car or do I need to take it to a specialist / dealer?

Why go to e-bay? Go to the place who sold it to you.

It does not sound like a battery issue. Those keys on ebay can be programmed and your actual key can be used from your old key but may be better to go to the dealer and get them just so there is not any problems. May cost a lot though.

I accidentally washed my E46 Key and one of the buttons stopped working. I ended up having to buy a new key from the dealer.

Is it possible to get Comfort Access on my 2009 BMW 128i? I was wondering if anyone on the forum has sent their BMW back to BMW to add something they wanted or forgot.
