Interior trim: Aluminum vs Glacier Silver Aluminum

Trying to decide between the two. Won't be able to see glacier in person before making my decision. Anyone have the glacier trim or have seen it up close? My concern with aluminum, based on forum posts, is that it scratches easily.

did they change the glacier trim for 2011? I seem to remember it being called something else previously.

Glacier Silver has a textured surface to it and I believe is slightly less susceptible for clumsy owners scratching it. Borrowed a pic from my other forum

Glacier without a doubt!!! I've seen it more than once and it looks great! So much more character than plain aluminum.

Glacier is much cooler looking and feeling than aluminum. I had the Al in a black car and it was boring. Saw Glacier in an M Sport and it was awesome.

So it's now called "Dark Glacier Aluminum" trim....changed from Glacier Aluminum. It does look darker in the build tool on BMW's site......can anyone else notice a difference?

I'm ordering black on black and the dark glacier doesn't seem to make the interior "pop" like it did previously. May just stick with brushed aluminum.

Yea, I'm getting the M-sport package, but I think the 2010's had "glacier aluminum trim" that was lighter. The 2011's have "dark glacier aluminum" which does indeed look darker

Here are some comparison pics....top is the old glacier aluminum, bottom is the "dark" glacier aluminum found in the 335is. I'm really digging the darker color

Who wants to trade their darker glacier for my lighter glacier?

FWIW, I say brushed aluminum, especially if the exterior is black, blue or another dark color. Just today I replaced the exterior chrome door and widow trim on my Monaco Blue 335 with matte black (thanks Tischer!). Replaced the chrome grill with matte black as well. Now, the lower diffuser splitter, the wheels, the interior door handles, and the interior trim are the "aluminum" color and everything else is Monaco or black. The brushed aluminum makes the rest of the interior pop. Glacier would get lost IMO.

I have to say (as somebody who has and prefers wood) that both trims look great (especially with black leather or a dark interior).

Does anybody know if the glacier resists scratches better? That seems to be an issue that is of concern to the OP.

Glad I ordered dark glacier then.
I'd be happy with either light or dark glacier but dark is a bit btter with black interior.

Crap! You beat me to the question. I like my Glacier but with the Jade grey interior it doesn't go as well as I had hoped it would. I would love to trade my glacier for dark glacier. It's in perfect condition.

I just ordered black interior with aluminum trim. Does anyone have a picture of their's? It doesn't say brushed aluminum, just aluminum. I think I must have brushed aluminum in my current 335i, which has gray dakota and looks good. I hope I made a good choice, I haven't seen it in person! Also ordered Jet Black....actually wanted it over metallic....but today I saw a jet black 325 and was not impressed....maybe the paint was just old.

I had aluminum trim with black leather, and it had quite a few scratches and dent on the drivers door panel, where the seat belt would whip back and impact the trim when released.
The glacier trim looks more durable and classier.

I actually wanted Piano Black (not to mention my cloth seats), but since BMWNA wouldn't allow that I was going to with brushed. However when my car was ordered, brushed wasn't allowed with M-Sport or so I was told.

between the two I think the aluminum looks better (IMO classier, the glacier looks rather cheap) but the glacier wont scratch.

I say ditch em both and do a hydrodip or wrap in cf

brushed aluminum is awesome but Glacier is a bit subdued, may be more livable. I saw on 335iS and looked really neat.
