Headlights update

just got back from getting rid of the piece of crap town and country and picking up my car. the total they wanted to charge me for my lights was $8,200. main charges were
2x headlights-$3,144
2x control unit xenon (ignitors)-$1,149
2x xenon bulbs-$554
1x light module-596
taxes-$547
labor-$1,400
the other $810 is a bunch of misc items.

obviously i know i can do this for "A LOT" cheaper. does anyone know where i can get any of these items for cheaper? i know some people replaced their headlights for 250 each. does anyone have their stock pair headlights? or can anyone point me where i can find these items at a much lower cost? thank you in advance.

Why do you need to replace the headlights and xenon bulbs, shouldn't your old ones work?

I would imagine you only need:

1x light module-596
2x control unit xenon (ignitors)-$1,149

at most...

HI, I can not understand why they want to change your headlights ? does anything is broken there? I believe that the main problem is in light module. Go to the repair shop that you can trust, they can test ignitors and bulbs, you can do it buy your self, but you will need to remove headlight and power it up directly from battery or from other 12V source.

when you will change light module, your car will need programming.

Since you have A.H. and based on the diagnosis, you do, in fact, have to replace what was listed. I had a failure of the light module which took out the stepper motor in one of the headlight buckets. The headlight bucket is a sealed unit and the stepper motor cannot be replaced on its own. While you have a different cause of failure, it sounds like the end result is the same. The total cost of the repair was was somewhat over $3200. I have an extended warranty that picked up the tab. Since I suspect you don't, but probably have auto insurance, you might want to call your agent.

You do not want to have something serious fail on one of these cars without some sort of financial plan in place. These are not easy cars to fix and some of the parts are very expensive. For us that have the 'vert, some failures can cost over $10,000 to fix the top properly. The amp for the sound system is $1100. Forget a serious mechanical issue with the engine.

If you cannot afford a hypothetical $4000 to $5000 repair, perhaps you shouldn't own the car.

My warranty will not cover it becuase an aftermarket part is the reason why they do not work. And that aftermarket company has not even refunded my money for the bulbs like they said they would

I would start with the 2x control unit xenon (ignitors) and see where that gets you. I opened up my lights to paint the reflector and when i installed them back in the car had all thses failures. After a power cycle of the battery the lights came back except I had an adaptive light error and the lights wouldn't turn laterally. I power cycled a couple of time and now everything has been working 100% for months. Seems like the lights can have issues clearing codes when they lose power.

I tried the power cycle after talking to an angel eye installer down here who said they run into this frequently and a power cycle until it's fixed is the only solution.

this is not good news...... for my adaptive headlights no longer adapt! They still auto level on initial start up but that is all the movement they are now capable of. Dealer looked at em and said the internal gearing is jammed and that the entire unit needed to be replaced.
In the garage, when i turn the wheel i can see them "bump" like they are trying to move but there is no lateral movement at all, so gearing seems like it might be the issue!

DAMN....
