2007 X3 ULF bluetooth retrofit (part 1)

Finally have it done. BMW USA official site suggests ULF 84216934961, and install kit 84110391531. But the later is discontinued without replacement, yet. So I have to order parts needed individually. Hope my experience would be helpful to other X3 owners. There is no guarantee of success by following steps below. No warranty of any kind. Retrofit your car at your own risk.

1. The car

2007 X3 with navigation, but without ASSIST.

2. parts

84109154358 13th gen ULF
84109168940 eject box
51163401961 center console (arm rest) trim piece
84316938762 microphone

I got all of them from http://onlinebmwparts.com/ for a total $650.68 including shipping. Highly recommend! Below is a picture of all the parts:

3. install mic

The first job is to open overhead control panel which is held to headliner by metal/plastic clips. Pulled it hard downward to open. See picture below for locations of those clips.

I found a wrong connector first. I knew it'd be too easy

The right one is behind the light panel. I can see the metal clips holding the light panel in place after removing the control panel in previous step. Just pushed on the clips to release the light panel. For my car the mic connector is glued to the left bottom corner inside the headliner. Used a small knife to pry it loose.

Connected the wire to mic, made sure arrow facing forward. Put everything back together.

To be continued in part 2

There seems to be a limit on the number of pictures I can attach to a post. Several pictures got deleted by the system in my first try. So I end up dividing it in two posts.

Cool but you didn't need the eject box or the center console trim piece. You could of just ordered a pairing button from Bimmernav instead.
