MPG Experience 2010 X6 50i

What is a consensus on what a reasonable mpg number should be for the 50i engine used is normal, mixed city/highway driving? Over the last 3000+ miles I'm seeing an average value of 14.7 mpg.

Thanks!

tps11, sorry to be unable to answer your question as I do not have an X6, but I wonder if at 3K miles you are happy with the car? By this I mean the driving experience, practicality, the WHOLE PACKAGE. Would you buy this car again? Others of course please offer your opinion.

From what I've read 14.7mpg isn't bad at all for the 50i.

Thanks.

I'm not expecting much more than that. In fact, we had a 2007 X5 4.8i that didn't do much better than that... and I can't imagine the 50i engine will be any better.

Hi Greg08x3,
Overall, I am very happy with the car and would buy it again today if I had to. I got the ventilated seats, heated front seats, premium audio, sports suspension, and the extra 40 hp increase. What I did not go for was the heads up display (when I found out that it works poorly with polarized glasses), the rear set entertainment system, soft close doors, wireless entry and adaptive steering.

It is a dream of a car to drive! Responsive but with good accelerator feel. Positioning was superb on the seating (driver and all passengers). Visibility is a little limited (compared to my old 540I), especially on the rear quarters. Backup camera takes care of worrying about views directly behind you. I stayed with the 19 inch sports wheels, which might be the only thing I regret (active suspension works extremely well in cornering but I feel the car may be limited in its max cornering due to the narrower tires than the 20" options).

Ride overall is a little harsh but not objectionable. Get the car over 80 and it is perfect (assuming you stay away from the cops). Rear storage is good, but the sloping roof line does make you think twice if you are going to load it up (tall stuff must go first!). I do tend to use the storage under the floor pan quite a bit, which is really good when you want to hide something (and its depth is pretty good too, at least 8").

Unlike many others, I found the Icontrol system to be pretty effective, especially combined with the verbal command system. GPS works well, but finding a destination using the GPS can be a little challenge. I've gotten used to finding where I want to go in Google and then emailing my car (works great and is something few reviewers ever talk about).

No problems to date on the car (other than keeping it clean - the red color looks great but it does show the dirt).

Hopefully I've answered some of your questions - if not, post them here and I'll to give you my honest opinion.

tps,

Thanks for your thoughtful response. I'm basically a wannabe, having come close to opting for the X6 50i when my 2008 X3 lease expired in early May, but I couldn't justify the price and decrease in utility at this point with a young family so I went with another X3, a sweet 2010 which I am actually loving, and feel it is an upgrade in many respects from my 2008. I do still some have some X6 envy so we will see. I'm hoping they bring over the 40d engine eventually so this car can be had with some decent gas mileage.
Enjoy.
