E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

Turning over for 5-10 seconds before starting

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and hoping someone can help me out. I couldn't find anything that really helps me out with this from the existing posts.

I've had my BMW 1 Series for about a year now and every now and then the engine turns over before kicking in and starting. Not all the time but perhaps when i've used it in the morning and come to use it at lunch it may happen.

Can anyone help me out with what may be the cause?

Cheers

Likely one of your coils is starting to go bad, or depending on mileage, a spark plug. Mine started the same way before finally becoming an obvious misfire almost a year later. One new coil and six fresh spark plugs later and it runs like new again.

is it a 135 or a 128? If it's a 135 a long crank is the first sign of a HPFP failure

Get all new coils on eBay. I purchased all Bosch for 23.00 each. Never had this problem again
