Some updates... I found a dealer who is offering $12k off of MSRP. But it has a slush box Just my luck. I also found what appears to be a pretty good deal on a new '09 35i. $12205 off of MSRP. Unfortunately, even at over $12k off the 35i is a little bit much for me in this economy. It comes nicely equipped with DCT, premium, comfort access, iPod usb, heated seats, 18" wheels. If anyone is looking for a new '09 35i let me know.

OUCH!!

I was actually looking for a well-equipped 35i, but am happy with what I ended up with, slushbox and all--you might test drive one before you write it off, there is a pseudo-manual mode....

I know... our 5 has a manual mode. Not a fan. Wish I could afford the 35i. I think I could learn to like DCT.

How much more do you need to get off before you can afford it? You never know how hungry someone is to make a sale, especially if you are prepared to buy immediately if he meets your price....if you like the car, offer whatever that figure is and see what happens--but if he meets that price, be prepared to buy immediately!

Re being ripped off on doc fee & titling service--yes, it was a ripoff, no doubt about it, but it is their standard doc fee, believe it or not! even printed on paperwork. And when I considered the totality of the deal, instead of getting my car for $40k, I got it for $40,700 or so which was still the deal of a lifetime. What matters is the total dollar amount, no matter what they call it--I would have bought the car if they had priced it at $40,650 and a $50 doc fee and been just as happy--but yes, I did have to get past that sick feeling of being gouged on the fee and just keep focused on the overall bottom line.

Doc fees are set by the state where the car is purchased. It's good to check on your state DMV website to make sure the sdalership isn't inflating that fee.

If you think you might learn to like the DCT and refer to it as a "slushbox" then I strongly suggestion you get the manual transmission.

No no no... those are two different cars. The 30i for $12k off has a 6 speed 'SporTronic' what I referred to as a 'slush box'. The 35i has DCT. I don't know, maybe it's because I have grown up driving a stick that I prefer it that way. Especially in a sports car like the Z4. There just isn't anything more fun than to be part of the machine and punching through those gears. That's what I love about driving my in-laws Z3. I can put our 5 in manual mode and 'shift' myself, but it just isn't the same. Of course I'm happy to have a slush box when stuck in stop and go traffic on I-217. If money was no object I'd build my own and do euro delivery. Get exactly what I want. But if you're out for a deal on a leftover '09 you must be willing to compromise. The world isn't black and white, it's shades of gray.

So after wrestling with some more dealers trying to get them to understand that a two model year old car can't demand top dollar anymore I have given up trying to find a new '09. I would have bought the one for $12k off if it would have been a manual, but after thinking about it spending $42k on something you aren't going to be 100% happy with just doesn't make sense. The 35i DCT sounded intriguing, but is out of my price range. I think I'm just going to take some time and go the euro delivery route again. Get exactly what I want. Yes, I won't be getting a killer deal that way, but in the long run I think I'll be much happier.

Anyways, thanks for all the advise guys and gals.

Marc, you are making a good choice. I am thrilled with my deal and FOR THE PRICE thrilled with my car...but a part of me is jealous whenever anyone does ED, especially when they get a car configured like I would have. For myself since I did have that deal available it made sense--I couldn't justify an extra $15k plus airfare & expenses plus almost $1k more sales tax for navi, extended leather and DCT--but for anything less than that deal I would have been heading to Munich for my new car too!

Yup that's the car. They took down the $10k off MSRP language on their own website too. I bet the reserve on Ebay is $43200.

Those Carrera Bend folks are idiots. They still have a new 08 M3 and an M6. Unless they think these are museum pieces, they should just cut their losses and sell them to the highest bidder. They are now 3 MYs old.

How to get the best Z4

Enigma is right about Carrera Motors in Bend (even if he is a Trojan.) Also, that 09 Z4 appears to only have PP, but not SP, and not even heated seats, a must in Oregon in the winter. As you all know, ED is tremendous fun: you get exactly the car you want; they treat you very well; you get to drive on high-speed autobahnen and scenic back roads and experience unparalleled history, architecture, culture and cuisine. And, the dollar is currently strong against the euro. Do it.

LOL.. you don't need to sell me on ED. I'm from there originally you know Plus I did ED when we bought our 3 some 10 years ago. I did just see that BMW FS is offering 0.9% financing for up to 72 months right now on all 2010s. That's pretty cheap financing.

Well in a drastic turn of events. I got a car today It's more than I had planned to spend in this economy, but I got a good deal and threw caution to the wind. I'll be picking it up this afternoon at 4. Ended up getting a 2010 35i very loaded. Sapphire black, beige leather, premium, sport, 19" wheels, nav, premium sound, cold, alarm, comfort access, smartphone.

Got it for 10.6% discount of MSRP. Car has 39 miles on it. Now the big question is, tire and wheel insurance yes or no??? I never had run flats on any car before, let alone on 19" wheels. Guess I'll see what they are willing to offer. If they come with some above $1k nonsense I think I will pass.

Congratulations! Not a bad deal at that--and same color combo as mine! Be sure to post pix.

I don't have tire & wheel insurance. I got a flat on my 17" rfts on my '08 because I ran over a screw. At the time I had paragon auto club for something like $27.95/year, and they reimbursed me $350 for my $375 tire replacement cost at the dealership. I haven't had any flats since, or for many years before.

Yeah I thought so too. Not a killer deal like yours of course, but I wasn't expecting that on a 2010. The 2010s have a $3500 rebate from BMW NA right now so the dealer made roughly $1200 on this sale. A fair amount in my book. I wouldn't haven bitten on this if it wouldn't be a manual.

The important thing is that you have the car you want at the price you can live with. Enjoy!
