Here's the options:

How about giving us a purchase price instead of an "out-the-door" price, as tax rates and so forth in different states can make comparison difficult. Also, is this a CPO car from a dealer?

This is a CPO and the tax rate is 3% and doc and tags run about $400.

TD-- with all due respect, you have no clue what you are talking about.

The 2001 X5 started at $39,995, and in typical BMW fare, you got nothing. The car mentioned is loaded if it has everything the original poster says it does, and originally sold for nearly $50,000. Additionally, the used market for X5 3.0's is HOT right now, and they are going for over $30,000 wholesale. Look at dealer listings... there are dealers out there selling 2001s for $39,995. We had one we sold a few weeks ago that we sold for $37,000, and we made very little because we had paid quite a bit for the car. If you can buy a 2001 X5 3.0 in good shape with reasonable mileage for $25-27,000 as you suggest, you'd be able to make a substantial profit by reselling it again.

You know, I actually DO owe an apology. When I read it, for some reason I thought he was talking about a 330i. And I never pay attention to what board a psot is on.

I will delete my post as I was very much in error.

So, what is the sale price, and what is the out the door price? Too many numbers being thrown around here, and I want to be sure I understand what is what. Does $35,700 include these fees, or are they in addition to it?

I don't have the price of the car, the out the door price is $35,700, that is purchase price plus 3% sales tax and $400 doc and tag fees.

I have done the same.

And for the record, I just ran a NADA retail, and it came up at $36,500 with normal mileage (~40k). I think 56k is a little high, but not crazy as the car still has under 60,000 miles and can be sold Certified.

I'd say take it and be happy.

And if it's a CPO, be sure to get your salesman some champagne.

And some chocolate.

Seems like a good price to me if all taxes/fees are included. What condition is the car in? Clean Carfax, etc.? How many owners?

The car is very clean, i can't find any flaws other than the PDC didn't work, but it is covered under CPO, so there are fixing it.

i meant to tell you to get a carfax from them. if they won't do it, get the vin and get one yourself. a car can be cpo'd even if it's been in a wreck. the damage to the car has to be less than a certain amount and it can't damage certain components so there's no garauntee w/o proof that the car is clean.

Thanks for posting for me man, I am heading out, it looks like to me that the deal is pretty good as long as the car is clean? What do you think?

A car that has been in an accident and only received cosmetic damage can still be certified, assuming it still meets the required criteria and was appropriately repaired. Any car that has received damage to the unibody or structural members of the vehicle can not be certified.
